TOMORROW – Join Us on the Patio
Thanks to all the IC-South Side members who’ve attended our Summer Socials to connect with fellow activists in a relaxing atmosphere. Summer’s not over yet – we’ve got one more tomorrow!

Special Day & Time: Tue., Aug 31 at 7:00 pm

Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 31st at 7:00 pm, join us on the outdoor patio behindthe Nile (1162 E. 55th). Order food and soft drinks from the Nile. IC-SS Co-leaders will provide wine and beer, but feel free to bring your own. If it rains, we’ll meet inside.

Join us tomorrow – Tues, Aug 31, 7:00 pm!

What will we do? Exchange ideas and resources. Take part in a quick action to support For the People Act. And, of course, nibble, sip, and chat.

You’re welcome to simply show up at the Nile on Aug 31st – but we invite you to register so we have a sense of how many people are coming. RSVP here – but feel free to attend at the last minute without notice.

Fall Get-Togethers

Starting in September, we will move to a once-a-month schedule for get-togethers. Save the date — our first fall gathering will be Thursday, September 23rd, 6:30 pm.

Help California Shut Down the Recall
Trump allies, QAnoners, conspiracy theorists, and anti-vaxxers have banded together to recall California’s Democratic Governor, Gavin Newsom. The election to determine if he will be recalled, and if he is recalled who will become Governor of California, is on September 14th, and ballots are being mailed now.

Progressives in California, including many Indivisible groups, are taking action to tell Californian voters what is at stake and to urge them to vote “No” on the recall. Now, they are asking for help from Indivisible members from across the country.

Did You Get to Attend?
The fight for voting rights and fair districting continues. In Illinois, SEIU Health Care was the lead organizer of last week’s March On virtual events in Illinois. Did you get to attend?

National Call to Action

On August 25th, Illinois grassroots organizations led a virtual National Call to Action. Among the speakers was Reverend Al Sharpton, who said, “We need all of us on the ground.”

Rev. Sharpton pointed out that, with the filibuster, we’d need 10 GOP senators in support of the For the People Act — but we can’t even get two! He stressed, “We need a carve-out for voting rights.”

National Day of Action

On August 28th, March On held live marches in DC, Atlanta, and several other cities. Illinois held a virtual march, with SEIU Health Care livestreaming the DC and Atlanta marches and hosting a line-up of Illinois leaders.

Speakers included four Illinois Congresswomen, Reps Robin Kelly, Lauren Underwood, Marie Newman, and Jan Schakowsky, who helped pass voting rights bills in the House. Now they urge us to contact our senators and call on them to do what it takes to pass both the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

An easy way to connect? Text PLEDGE to 89799.

IC-SS Co-Leader Sarah Lincoln represented the citywide Indivisible Chicago Alliance at planning meetings for the virtual March On events, providing behind-the-scenes help with communications. Sarah urges us all to let the fire from these events fuel our fight for the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

Register Voters with ILVOTE
IC-SS member Julia Kline has long been a voter registration activist and a leader in organizing Chicagoland voter registration efforts, particularly on the the city’s South Side.

Julia is now organizing with ILVOTE, a certified state civic organization for voter registration. Per the organization’s new website, ILVOTE “works to increase voter awareness and promote voter turnout for every election at the federal, state and local levels.”
