Virginia Handmaid’s Tale: Christian Nationalists Defund Public Schools

Abortions outlawed. Women banned from reading. Trans community attacked…

Nope. Not Gilead from the Handmaid’s Tale. This is Virginia today where Republican Christian Nationalists push there extreme agenda, copied straight from the Handmaid’s Tale. Judge the similarities between the Republican scheme and Handmaid’s Tale for yourself with this relationship map.

Read the Washington Post article about Michael Farris, Alliance Defending Freedom and Moms For Liberty. Summary:

“Farris wrote a Virginia bill that passed the Republican-controlled state legislature. The new law was “kind of a sleeper” … That changed dramatically eight years later, when Republican gubernatorial candidate Youngkin began to invoke parents’ rights on the campaign trail. Farris said he was among those who urged Youngkin to promise “to get rid of all the politics in the public schools. Say that a thousand times. You’ll be governor of Virginia”

Follow the money behind ADF and Michael Farris

“Bohlinger laid out the plan on the donor call: ADF lawyers would file lawsuits they hoped would lead to a Supreme Court ruling that declared a constitutional right to vouchers for private and home schools. As a result, Ziklag’s education committee estimated in one document, the public education system could lose about $238 billion a year — a third of its total funding.

“Our goal is to take down the education system as we know it today,” Bohlinger said in one of the videos reviewed by The Post.

ADF has filed several lawsuits in state courts challenging schools’ instruction on racism or gender transition policies. Among the plaintiffs are Virginia parents arguing they should be reimbursed for education costs after pulling their children out of public schools they say taught an anti-racist curriculum. ADF has also filed amicus briefs in federal lawsuits brought by its allies asserting that school policies on gender transition are unconstitutional.” – Washington Post

Rewarding abortion vigilantes

“Terrifying Texas Abortion Law Mobilizes ‘Vigilantes’ To Shred Rights. An attorney for the Department of Justice on Friday slammed the “terrifying” and “subversive” new Texas abortion law for empowering “vigilante bounty hunters” to shred women’s constitutional rights. The law bars abortions after six weeks, before most women even know they’re pregnant. Enforcement is through citizen vigilantes, who can win $10,000 in civil damages if they successfully sue anyone who “aids and abets” an abortion — from a doctor to a driver.” – HuffPo

Abortion Bill Could See Women Charged With Murder

Under the new proposed House Bill 813, abortion will be considered as homicide from fertilization and conception. The legislators’ professed aim is to “ensure the right to life and equal protection of the laws to all unborn children from the moment of fertilization…” Any abortion would then see both the doctor or those assisting and the person who had the abortion charged with murder. – Newsweek
