Last Week in DemCast

Last week was a busy one in the news. New York prosecutors charged the Trump Organization and Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg with a long-running scheme to avoid taxes. Rescue efforts on the Surfside condo in Miami ended as officials prepared for the demolition of the remaining building due to Tropical Storm Elsa bearing down on the state.

And here at DemCast, Patty Hoyt writes about why justice should be meted out during the congressional recess. Bilingual writer and activist Vivian Leal pens an op-ed about the need for an investigation into the January 6th insurrection. Santiago Mayer shares his thoughts about how moms need help getting back to work. Marcy Miroff Rothenberg discusses the problem, past and present, of “carpetbaggers” in California’s 25th congressional elections. Finally, Stephanie Massie Clark wishes our country a happy birthday!

DemCast wishes all our readers a happy Fourth of July! Celebrate, stay safe, and remember that we honor our country’s past and future when we see it honestly, with all its flaws and all its promise.

DemCast is an advocacy-based 501(c)4 nonprofit. We have made the decision to build a media site free of outside influence. There are no ads. We do not get paid for clicks, but are sustained solely on donations from grassroots supporters. Because our revenue isn’t click-driven, we don’t take in any direct revenue from the creative contributions of grassroots activists who post on the site. This sets us apart from other media sites. And we’re proud of that.
