SPECIAL CALL TO ACTION
AZ REDISTRICTING COMMISSION

Contact the Independent Redistricting Commission
The Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) is going to hire a mapping consultant next week. Three firms have applied for this job:
- HaystaqDNA LLC (Limited Liability Company)
- Taylor English Decisions LLC (Limited Liability Company)
- Timmons Group/NDC (National Demographics Corporation)
Before the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission chooses the mapping consultant that will help turn its proposed district boundaries into reality, it wants to give the three finalists an opportunity to respond to criticism that has been leveled at them.
The IRC has extended the official public comment period regarding mapping consultants through the end of Thursday (4/29) at 5pm, and the consulting firms will have until Monday (5/3) to submit written responses. The commissioners will address the comments at their next meeting on Tuesday (5/4).
It is critical that the commission choose the best and most experienced firm!
Please join us to generate public comment in

Arizona Senate Goes Down the Rabbit Hole
with Maricopa County Ballots “Fraudit”
As the Arizona Senate’s historic recount and audit of the 2020 general election in Maricopa County kicked off, outside the watchful eye of journalists who were banned from attending, election integrity experts raised a number of concerns about what they deemed an alarming lack of policies or knowledge of proper procedures by the auditing team.

With the Stroke of a Pen, Gov. Ducey Has Taken a Step Towards Making Arizona the Next GileadSB1457 was signed into law on Tuesday, April 27, 2021This bill makes it a crime to perform abortions based on genetic conditions, despite OB-GYNs and attorneys warning it was “medically unsound” and unconstitutional.
Medical providers who terminate pregnancies based solely on conditions like Down syndrome or cystic fibrosis could face prison time under SB1457, unless the abortion involves a condition considered “lethal.” The measure also confers civil rights on fetuses at any stage of development, with an exception for embryos created via in vitro fertilization.
In addition to imposing criminal sanctions, Senate Bill 1457 forbids the mailing or delivery of abortion-inducing drugs, which doctors sometimes use to manage miscarriages. It also requires fetal remains to be buried or cremated and imposes new reporting requirements on medical facilities.
It prohibits public educational institutions from performing abortions unless the mother’s life is in jeopardy. And it prevents public money from supporting research involving abortions or embryo transfers.

Mark Finchem Will Appear on QAnon Talk Show
Oro Valley Republican state legislator and secretary of state candidate Mark Finchem is scheduled to appear on a popular far-right QAnon talk show in May.
“I’ve scheduled him on the show, he has agreed to come on the show. He is going to do a full two hours,” Zak Paine of QAnon talk show “RedPill78” said in a clip posted by Alex Kaplan of liberal watchdog group Media Matters for America. Paine said Finchem will be on his show the first weekend of May.

For the People Act
Republican-controlled state legislatures have introduced over 361 voter suppression bills in 47 states, and some states, like Georgia, have already enacted them into law.
These bills are egregious. They shrink early voting periods, add onerous voter ID requirements, limit eligibility for mail-in ballots, ban ballot drop boxes and drive-thru voting, and even make it a crime to give voters in line water.
There’s only one way to stop this assault on our democracy. It’s called the
For the People Act, and the window for Congress to pass it is closing.
The bill faces an uphill battle in the Senate because of the archaic filibuster rule that requires a 60-vote supermajority to pass legislation. The good news is Senate Democrats have the power to end the filibuster and thereby allow the For the People Act to become law. It’s time for Democrats to unite on this, without hesitation. The stakes could not be higher.
Simply put, it’s democracy or authoritarianism.
Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich reveals how to stop Republicans from Stealing Elections. Click the graphic above or HERE to watch the video.

Call Senator Sinema
To Demand an End to the Filibuster
This archaic Senate rule has become a brick wall for progress on immigration reform, gun safety, and now voting rights. Many policies heavily favored by the majority of Americans of all political stripes fail to progress because a single Senator can object. It’s time for the filibuster to go!
We need to let Senaator Sinema know that voting rights at home are undergoing an unprecedented assault. Take these easy actions today!

Mother’s Day ~ A Day for Peace
Sunday, May 9, Noon
South Courthouse Steps on Goodwin Street Side
As we prepare again to celebrate our mothers and all they have given, let us remember the origin of a “mother’s day proclamation”, written by Julia Ward Howe in 1870 following the carnage of our civil war and the Franco-Prussian War that followed. She called on women to unite for peace in the world in memorable prose. She could not have imagined the inhumane and indiscriminate weapons created in the following century. Nuclear weapons (the most inhumane and indiscriminate weapons ever created), violate international law, cause severe environmental damage, undermine both national and global security and divergent basic public resources away from meeting human needs. -Laurel Freeman
On January 22, 2021 The U.N. Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons was ratified by over 80 international states and the number is rising. Unfortunately, the United States is not one of them. The focus for Prescott Peacebuilders this year will be a call to action to end nuclear weapons and to have the United States join this Treaty. We will have several events leading up to the International Day of Peace in September. Marion Pack will be writing and sharing informational articles about nuclear weapons to give you more insight into this issue.
We want and need to work together toward a more peaceful, sustainable future.
