VACANCY ON PRESCOTT CITY COUNCIL
Courtesy of Save the Dells, 1/18/21

OUTCRY MADE A DIFFERENCE FOR A PUBLIC FEBRUARY 9TH MEETING.  WE WANT THE INITIAL DELIBERATIONS ON FEBRUARY 2ND TO BE PUBLIC, TOO!  Initially, all meetings on the council seat decision were to be held behind closed doors, but your letters, Rants, and phone calls influenced the council to voice support for conducting the interviews with finalists on February 9 in public.
POOR DECISIONS FOR REPLACEMENT ARE EXPECTED –We expect that the majority of the current council will choose someone who will not put the best interests of the people first. Contrary to Steve Blair’s suggestion, former councilmember Jim Lamerson would be unsuitable, as he had already served for 16 years and was voted out of office by the public in 2019. Appointing him would be blatant disregard for the public’s choice for a council seat.
TELL CITY LEADERSHIP TO DO THE RIGHT THING –Because the public will not choose the appointee, and the appointment will last for 33 months, it is even more critical that this person represents the general public. Insist all candidate meetings are public, so we will know that all applicants were considered fairly. A decision to fill the seat will most likely be finalized on February 23,  2021. We strongly encourage you to follow the process closely. We will keep you updated as much as possible through newsletters and on social media. As always, your participation is integral to our success.
DO YOU WANT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE VACANCY?  Interested citizens may access the application on the city website at the following link: Prescott City Council Details or by contacting the City Clerk’s Office. The application filing deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2021. For more information on the vacancy, visit the City’s website at www.prescott-az.gov or contact the City Clerk’s Office at 928-777-1245.

       #RemovePaulGosar from Congress

By refusing to recognize the results of the certified election and supporting allegations without evidence Congressman Paul Gosar encouraged the terrorists and seditionists disrupting our constitutional process. Furthermore Paul Gosar encouraged the rally~riot~insurrection~coup attempt that stormed the capital building. He continues to agitate against the norms of our democratic republic.

Please help Prescott Indivisible and the Yavapai Democrats encourage current members of Congress to expel Paul Gosar

Climate Change: What’s Gender Got to Do With It
Partners:  No. AZ Climate Change Coalition, Prescott Indivisible and
Yavapai Co. Women March On

Dr. Frances Julia Riemer will explore and discuss the many issues of social justice and   gender inequity in a changing climate. This will include examining the higher risks and greater burdens on women from the impacts of climate change and the ways in which unequal participation in decision-making processes and labor markets compound these effects and prevent women from fully contributing to climate-related planning, policy-making and implementation.
Dr. Frances Julia Riemer is Professor of Educational Foundations and Associate Faculty, former Director of Women’s and Gender Studies Program at Northern Arizona University. In January, concerned people from around the world have marched in sisterhood and solidarity for the equal rights of women. After this presentation, join us for a Social Hour to share
your stories from past Women’s marches and events.
This zoom presentation is open to the public and you need to registerhere to receive the link to join.

Prescott Indivisible was founded in 2017, when Paul Hamilton and Nicole Romine put an ad in the local paper, requesting local progressives to show up at the library. Over 100 people lined up. In short order, we had formed a local chapter of the national Indivisible movement. Within six months we adopted a set of Guidelines that sets the framework in which we work, designed a logo and printed and sold t-shirts. Our mailing list quickly expanded from 100 to over 1,200. We usually have 100 or more attend our general monthly meetings.

Prescott Indivisible has a strong track record of activism. We adopted the team concept: Communication/Events; Voter Education and Elections; Education; Environment; Human Rights; Immigration and Peacekeepers to assist with safely issues. Initially we had a steering committee that consisted of volunteers. After our guidelines were adopted, the steering committee is made up of elected officers and members at large and the heads of the various teams, or their designees. A diverse group of community activists, social justice advocates and others that have volunteer ties to non-profits and religious organizations, the steering committee assists the teams when asked and sets the agendas.

Our teams and their members have worked diligently to make their voices heard. We have made thousands of calls, mailed hundreds of postcards to our legislators in Arizona and in congress. We have collaborated with like-minded organizations to advocate for issues of crucial importance to Arizona and the nation.
