Blue Beginning
Tonight: Blue Monday with Lauren Underwood and Jon Langford
Tonight we meet at the virtual Hideout for another installment of Blue Monday, our Covid-corrected political salon. Our guest will be Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, who represents one of our proudest moments as political activists (because we worked hard for her and we like to take a little credit for her upset election). She and WBEZ political reporter Dave McKinney will survey the Illinois political landscape with our hosts Tom Moss, producer and star of the Indivisible Chicago Podcast, and our leader Marj Halperin. Also on the program will be Anders Lindall, of Vote Yes for Fair Tax (see more below), and Chicago’s punk rock pioneer, alt-country superhero, and visual artist extraordinaire Jon Langford. 8-9 PM at the Hideout Online. Leave a tip for our Hideout comrades!
Focus on Fair Tax
This week Indivisible Chicago’s Three States One Mission campaign looks homeward as we roll out our support of the Illinois Fair Tax initiative. Tonight, Monday August 31, Indivisible Lincoln Square’s monthly meeting will provide a primer. The guest speaker will be Ralph Martire, executive director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability. He’ll cover where/who tax revenue comes from, tax policy as a social justice issue, the Fair Tax’s impact on the state’s financial problems, and the compelling arguments in the initiative’s favor. 6:30-8:30 pm on Zoom. Sign up here. Then find a Fair Tax phone bank (they start Saturday September 5) and get to work . If you’re a rookie, we have a training class that will make you a phone bank pro.

True or false, Daniel Biss: Phone banking is a waste because nobody answers their phones.
Join the Texting Team
Our Texting Team is growing fast and so is the demand for texting volunteers. We have two programs currently, the national IndivisiText Team and our MI and WI Voter Registration Texting. Each program requires its own training, but once you’re past that—and of course we help you every step of the way— you’ll find it a fun, satisfying, and very convenient way to connect with voters, especially younger ones.
