With Trump and state Republicans’ poll numbers in free-fall, GOP legislators in North Carolina just made their last-ditch move to guarantee a Republican victory: By rigging the voting laws to re-elect Trump.
At the last possible minute, North Carolina Republicans are attempting to reinstate a voter photo ID law that was blocked by a court last year. Their goal is to block thousands of North Carolinians from voting in the 2020 elections – and if a change this late in the calendar causes chaos at polling places across the state, then that will be just a bonus.
North Carolina is a battleground state in 2020, and we need everyone to vote if we want to see a big blue, Democratic wave. That can’t happen if Republicans get their way.
If Republicans want to win elections by blatantly trying to suppress the vote, then they don’t deserve to be in office. Democrats must fight back against these egregious GOP tactics so Republicans can’t steal these elections across the country.
Republicans who try to rig elections in their favor don’t belong anywhere near public office.
Legislators should be focused on helping their constituents and passing legislation that betters their communities – not preventing Americans from exercising their right to hold our leaders accountable.
This is unacceptable – especially in a crucial swing state where every vote could be pivotal. Democrats MUST take down Republicans like these at the ballot box this fall, to send a message to the entire nation that suppressing lawful voters will always BACKFIRE on the GOP.
