Friends,

As our country marks Independence Day this weekend, at Future Now Fund we’re working to empower state lawmakers who are independent fromand actively fighting againstthe narrow special interests who have done so much damage to our country.

Racial profiling. Private prisons. Stand your ground laws. The list seems endless. For decades, the most effective vehicle for laws like these that perpetuate structural racism and enrich a small number of narrow interests has been the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the Koch network-backed organization that’s a one-stop shop for corporations and the radical right to change our country’s laws.

This year they’ve fueled the special-interest backed “reopening” efforts to protect their own pockets at the cost of workers and small businesses, broader economic recovery for all Americans, and lives.

Newt Gingrich called ALEC “the most effective organization” for conservativesand I couldn’t agree more.

This Independence Day is a moment to reflect on the history of the nationour shameful systemic racism and capture by greedy special interests, and our most hopeful moments of progress. We have an unprecedented opportunity to take on what’s wrong and to breathe life into our most hopeful vision of the future by winning state legislative majorities. Future Now Fund is taking on that fight. And we hope you’ll join us.

To build a healthy, prosperous, and sustainable future, the way forward is clear. Start in the states. Now.

Thank you for being in this fight,

Daniel
