How much does the gun lobby donate to TN Republicans?

“Senator Marsha Blackburn (R‑TN) got about $1.3 million from the NRA during her career. The NRA also endorsed her in 2018. Overall, she raised around $11 million for her campaign, which means NRA funds make up around 12% of the total money she raised. She voted against the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act in June 2022, which expanded mental services and increased background check requirements for people under 21 years old to buy or sell guns. The bill was later signed into law.” — WBIR

Senator Bill Hagerty (R‑TN) got about $15,826 from the NRA. He also raised around $11 million in his 2020 race for the office.

Representative Chuck Fleischmann (R‑TN) received $15,842 from the NRA since his first race in 2010. In total, he raised around $8.7 million for his campaign.

Representative Tim Burchett (R‑TN) received $4,845 from the NRA. In his three races since 2018, he raised around $3.8 million in total. — WBIR

Republicans relax gun laws

In Tennessee, a shooter indiscriminately opened fire in March 2023 at The Covenant School — a Christian school in Nashville — and killed three children and three adults before being killed by police.

Tennessee Republicans have regularly loosened gun laws, including a 2021 permit-less carry law.

Republicans rejected a series of Democratic amendments, including parental consent requirements, notification when someone is armed, and the school district assuming civil liability for any injury, damage or death due to staff carrying guns.

Tennessee Republicans passed a law bolstering protections against lawsuits involving gun and ammunition dealers, manufacturers and sellers.

They signed off on allowing private schools with pre-kindergarten classes to have guns on campus. — AP
