- CONDEMN THE COLLEGE BOARD’S COMPLIANCE WITH CENSORSHIP
Under pressure from Governor Ron DeSantis to conform to his racist agenda, the College Board folded and watered down their AP African-American Studies curriculum. This sort of compliance with censorship is dangerous, and can’t go unanswered. Activists with Gen Z for Change have designed an easy tool to let the College Board know you object. Let’s send them a message. - JOIN INDIVISIBLE’S TRUTH BRIGADE TO FIGHT DISINFORMATION It’s time to fight disinformation! Indivisible is ready to help us learn how to protect our communities and democracy from false information, misleading messages, and lies. We can find out more here and then, if we like, sign up for Indivisible’s Truth Brigade and join the fight against extremism.
- JUSTICE FOR TYRE NICHOLS
True justice for Tyre Nichols means policy change. While local activists have already pressured the Memphis Police Department into shutting down the “elite” police unit that murdered him, there’s more work to be done. Color of Change is urging the Memphis City Council to end pretextual traffic stops and increase transparency and civilian oversight. Let’s sign on to their petition.
- FLIP A SUPREME COURT SEAT IN WISCONSIN
We are quickly approaching the non-partisan primary in the race for a swing seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, a race that could have a huge impact on abortion rights and control of the House of Representatives. Let’s make sure we don’t let this opportunity go to waste. We can sign up to phonebank into Wisconsin on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from now until the election with the Wisconsin Democrats here, and chip in to help fund their efforts if we can.
- POSTCARDS TO VOTERS FOR CONGRESSIONAL RACE IN VIRGINIA:
Right now, Postcards To Voters volunteers are writing postcards for Jennifer McClellan for a special election on February 21 in Virginia to fill a congressional seat (vacated when the incumbent died). If we are already approved with PTV, we can text, email, or Slack message to get addresses. If we are new to PTV, we can start the simple approval process to be ready for the next campaign.
CORRECTIONS AND UPDATES
- MEDICARE OVERPAYMENTS NOT RECOVERED
We got feedback from Friday’s item on Medicare Advantage overpayments that the number we gave for the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Studies did not give folks an opportunity to share their feedback. We’re very sorry about that! We recommend that you make this push to the White House, who can direct CMS and the Department of Health and Human Services to make a policy change.
Despite audits stretching back to 2011 showing that Medicare Advantage plans—the privatized version of Medicare being relentlessly pushed by the government—have been seriously overcharging Medicare for services rendered to senior citizens, the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has decided not to pursue repayment of the billions of dollars owed the government. Let’s tell the White House that allowing Medicare Advantage plans to get away with this overcharging is not acceptable—and calls into serious question the “value” of these Advantage plans.
