We’re singing for the future
Our children’s future. Our country’s future. The future of democracy itself. We’re singing to support the Freedom to Vote Act, to make sure it’s not neglected amid the year-end craziness on Capitol Hill. We need this crucial legislation to counter the shameless voter suppression measures that Republicans are pushing in more than 40 states. They are trying to rig elections in their favor for decades to come. If they succeed, the political winter will be very long and very dark.
But hey, it’s the holidays: we’re also singing for fun! The amateur comedians at Indivisible Chicago (emphasis on amateur) have been hard at work tweaking the lyrics of your favorite seasonal songs. This will be a great chance to have a few laffs with your fellow Indivisibles and enjoy the ambient merriness of Millennium Park at Christmas. Go here for more info and here to RSVP. Singing ability is welcome but not required!
Meanwhile, back on the phones
Our Indivisible Chicago/Common Cause Phone Banks continue to press the issue in the Senate. On Tuesday we’re calling constituents of Senator Kyrsten Sinema and connecting them directly with her office so they can deliver our holiday message: fix the filibuster already and pass the Freedom to Vote Act!
Over the last few weeks we’ve noticed that Arizonans are mad and fun to talk to. We’re also having good conversations in Virginia on Wednesdays. If you’ve never phone baked before, no worries. Our sessions are known from NY to California for excellent training, exhaustive background resources, and real-time support. We have a regular crew of experienced and friendly volunteers who will welcome you in and make you feel comfortable and confident. Sign up here for a shift or two. It will lift your holiday spirits.
