The Oakland County Democratic Party sends our condolences to those who lost family members and friends in the horrific shooting that occurred in our backyards at Oxford High School.
Gun reform has long been an issue we strongly support. We will continue to identify and work with candidates and elected officials who are dedicated to ending senseless acts of gun violence. We also are working closely with the students of Oxford and surrounding communities to see how OCDP can coordinate conversations around healing, gun reform and safety. Here are some ways that you can help now:
1. Donate: We encourage you all to donate to the Oakland County Dems for Oxford fundraiser. The donations are intended to help Oxford High School rebuild and continue investing in mental health services for its students.
2. Take Action: Text ACT to 644-33. Use your voice and vote to stop gun violence.
3. Show up: There will be a gathering today, December 3rd at 6:45pm (corner of Mill and South Streets) for prayers and a moment of silence. From 7:30pm to 9:00pm, the Ortonville United Methodist Church will be open to the public for those looking for a safe space to grieve and reflect. Please wear blue and gold to honor the Oxford Community. For more information, see the Facebook event page.
To the elected officials who have chosen to look the other way time after time, we call on you now to support legislation to ensure this never happens again in Michigan or anywhere for that matter. We must all work together to keep our children safe.
