Changing the Conversation

Dear Volunteers and Friends,

Almost no one’s paying attention to the Pennsylvania judicial elections happening in under three weeks.  But they could determine whether Republicans successfully suppress the vote in 2022 and 2024.

That’s why a dedicated corps of CTCers was out again last weekend, canvassing North Philly.  Undaunted by drizzle, every canvasser connected with voters eager to know more about the judges’ elections.  We registered new voters, and submitted VBM applications. A few voters even wanted to learn more about becoming canvassers.  It was exhilarating!!

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Inquirer called this “a pivotal moment for democracy” in PA.  The GOP candidate for State Supreme Court, they wrote, may “place unacceptable burdens on the right to vote, scale back regulations on gun ownership, and chip away at the right to access an abortion.” On the other side, the Democratic candidate is a single mother, first-generation college grad family-court judge “highly recommended” by the Bar Association.

This election shouldn’t be a close call—but it is.  With only about 20% of the electorate expected to turn out, every vote will count.  And your well-trained work to educate and motivate voters can make a huge difference.

Last weekend we connected with local community members, shared joyous memories and exchanged lessons learned. We met some people who always  vote, but still knew nothing about these upcoming elections … We met others who almost never vote, but after swapping stories agreed to do so now … Pravin Chottera registered a 20-year-old who is going to vote for the first time!

But we need more canvassers.  It’s clear that the more people we bring to the turf, the more voters we’ll motivate and persuade.

Will you join us?

Here’s the overview of canvasses and trainings between now and Election Day.

Or go directly to sign up for the canvass date(s) that work for you:

Sunday October 24

Saturday October 30

Sunday, October 31

Consider staying over Election Weekend, with actions every day Saturday 10/30 through Tuesday 11/2.  If you need a place to stay, we may be able to help!

We know deep canvassing works, if we work it.  Please come out and lend a hand to save our democracy!

Adam

PS We’ve reorganized our trainings to match your experience level, and to get Advanced Canvassers out on the turf as soon as possible!
