A big exhale, a big thank you (and stay tuned)!

SwingLeft Peninsula

Maybe you already heard. Joe Biden got inaugurated and we elected and inaugurated our first female Vice-President, Kamala Harris! Both were both upstaged by brilliant young poet Amanda Gorman reading her poem “The Hill We Climb.” Gorman’s poem includes these prophetic words:

We did not feel prepared to be the heirs

of such a terrifying hour,

but within it we found the power

to author a new chapter

We–you, I, and thousands of Peninsula dwellers–found the power through our collaboration, working together as Swing Left Peninsula and working with others, reaching across the artificial boundaries of economic status, skin color, and religion to author our new chapter. We rightfully celebrate, yet let’s recognize that this new chapter must be followed by more as we pursue justice, equality, compassion and bright futures for all.

We’ll be taking a much-needed break for a bit–perhaps a month or two. There will be a nationwide Swing Left Zoom meeting on February 11th (5 PM Pacific) so watch your email for that invitation. In 2021, we’ll likely be focusing on Virginia elections and laying groundwork to defend and extend control of the U.S. House and Senate. Details to come!

What we’ve achieved together – Woo Hoo!

Swing Left Peninsula readers, our successes are truly your successes. You are what it means to be a grassroots organization. You have donated and volunteered your precious time. You showed up and we are so grateful. We couldn’t have done it all without you.

We want to hear from you!

Please tell us your stories and share your experience whether it was one phone bank or years of support. Send us pictures of your postcards, letter writing parties, debate watches, and canvassing trips (just let us know if you are okay with us sharing them).

Reply to this email (info@swingleftpeninsula.org). Let’s celebrate together!

CA-10: Help Elect Sue Zwahlen in Modesto!

There’s one more election that needs our help!

Modesto’s February 2nd runoff Mayoral election pits an experienced advocate for better schools, improved healthcare, and higher-paying jobs, Sue Zwahlen against her hard-line Republican opponent. Modesto is a major city in CA-10 and will be needed to ensure the House of Representatives seat stays blue with Josh Harder in 2022. Voters have received their ballots and we must make sure people cast them. Let’s do what we do best and get out the vote!

We close with another quote from Amanda Gorman’s “The Hill We Climb”…

Let us remember:

For while we have our eyes on the future,

history has its eyes on us.
