Our September 27th Newsletter

We vanquished the recall! Perhaps we should thank the opposition for that opportunity to pull together. We strengthened our alliances, learned new ways to do things, and motivated hundreds of volunteers to make calls, send texts, and knock on doors. Virginia’s next – their statewide elections are weeks away and critical to building progressive power. Then we’ll focus on 2022’s elections, which we prepare for even now. Dan Pfeiffer puts it all in perspective for us on Thursday. Read on for details…

Don’t miss Dan Pfeiffer!

This Thursday, September 30th at 6:00pm PT

Political strategist Dan Pfeiffer will join us on Thursday. We’ll discuss the current political climate and how best to pave a path to 2022 success in light of the pandemic and radicalism on the Right.

Pfeiffer served as Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama for Strategy and Communications from 2013 to 2015. He now co-hosts Pod Save America, a highy-regarded political podcast and he’s a political contributor to CNN.

Pfeiffer has written two books: Yes We (Still) Can: Politics in the Age of Obama, Twitter, and Trump (2018), and Un-Trumping America: A Plan to Make America a Democracy Again (2020).

Join Our Fundraiser for Josh Harder!

Wednesday, October 13th at 5:00pm PT

Swing Left Peninsula along with SL South Bay, SL Marin, SL San Francisco, and SL Santa Cruz are sponsoring a fundraiser for Josh Harder, Representative for California’s 10th congressional district.

Josh, a fifth-generation resident of California’s central valley, won his Congressional seat in CD-10 in both 2018 and 2020. Since being elected, Josh secured the first water project funding for his district in over 50 years, authored the Coronavirus Paid Sick Leave Credit Act, introduced a landmark climate change bill to help farmers be a part of the climate solution, and is working hard to improve access to health care in the central valley.

Join Josh for a Zoom discussion with updates on the current Congress and hear how he will WIN his Congressional seat after his district voted “yes” on the recall. Josh is crucial to maintaining the Democratic House majority!

VoterPAC Fundraiser – Hooray – We Did It!

The September 16th event for VoterPAC was a big success!  Forty-four guests participated, we blew past the $20,000 fundraising goal and donations are still arriving. That money supports seven community organizations that are registering central valley voters. If you’d like to donate now, do so here.

Dolores Huerta enthralled us with her passion as she challenged us to get involved in the Central Valley. Jewel Hurtado spoke from her perspective of being a young woman-of-color on the Kingsburg city council. TJ Cox inspired us with his vision of the importance of registering voters in the Central Valley – we can flip that region blue! Thanks to all who supported VoterPAC.  We’re proud to help to launch VoterPAC’s efforts to register thousands of voters in the CA-21 region and help them find their political voice.

“Every moment is an organizing opportunity, every person a potential activist, every minute a chance to change the world.” – Dolores Heurta

March for Women’s Reproductive Rights!

Saturday, October 2nd at 12:00pm in Mountain View
We are witnessing the most dire threat to women’s reproductive rights in our lifetime. When the Supreme Court rejected an emergency request to block Texas’s abortion ban, they effectively took the next step towards overturning Roe v. Wade.

On October 2nd, the Women’s March will be held in every state, in protest of the growing attacks on women’s reproductive rights in our country. Join the march in Mountain View and hear from local CA State Senator Josh Becker, CA Assembly member Marc Berman, Los Altos Mayor Neysa Fligor, and Mountain View Mayor Ellen Kamei.

Gather in Gateway Park at the corner of Castro and El Camino Real at noon.
We’ll leave Gateway Park at 12:15pm and march to City Hall Plaza, arriving for the speeches at 12:30pm.
