We finally made it to 2021! Of course, if you’re like us, you think the new year should actually start on January 20. . . . But seriously, who out there isn’t breathing a huge sigh of relief now that 2020 is receding in the rearview mirror and we dare think about vaccinations and summer vacations?
And 2020 was tough for many reasons beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. We spent much of the year anxious, agitated and sleepless over the presidential election and all that could happen depending on the outcome. (As in, relocation to Canada, Australia, anywhere that would take us.) And despite the Republicans’ upcoming hijinx on January 6, the fact remains: Trump lost and we won!
As this past week’s articles attest to, none of us operate under any apprehension that our work is over. With all the lunacy raging through the country — from QAnon to Republicans in Congress — we face challenges galore. But if there is one thing we should learn from 2020, it’s this: A country that can depose an incumbent president who manipulated every lever of government to his advantage can do anything. (Also, wear a mask.)
Here at DemCast, we look forward to all the changes 2021 will bring. We hope you will join us for the ride.
