A rapidly-unfolding scandal could soon take down the man Donald Trump sent to take down the U.S. Postal Service.
In the last 48 hours, the Washington Post has revealed that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy – a prolific Republican donor hand-picked by Trump’s cronies – allegedly ran an illegal straw-donor scheme designed to funnel extra cash to GOP candidates, while using his employees to hide the source of the funds.
House Democrats have announced an investigation into these revelations, and now multiple senators and representatives are calling for DeJoy’s suspension or even resignation.
It’s been obvious from the beginning that Louis DeJoy never had any business being appointed to head the U.S. Postal Service.
Like so many GOP appointees in the Trump era, his only qualification that seemed to matter was money – the millions of dollars DeJoy pumped into Republican politics over the years – and now we’re learning that he couldn’t even manage that without creating a major scandal.
It’s gotten so bad, so quickly, that even Trump himself is grudgingly supporting an investigation – and this is a president who’s stood by some of his cronies even after they’ve been convicted of federal crimes!
