Labor Day Is Over
Time to Get to Work
This election is a moment in history that we cannot ignore. We have an opportunity to put our shoulders to the wheel in the next 56 days and work for a better nation. Over the Labor Day holiday, Lean Left organizers took some time to think through and prepare for the work ahead.
Protecting the vote is at the top of our priority list. We have links to voter protection phone banks and state Democratic party volunteer voter protection hotlines. These volunteer opportunities help voters with information about voting by mail, early voting, and where they can deliver their ballots or vote in person. We are helping state Democratic parties line up poll workers and observers, who are critical to a free and fair election!
We’ve updated the website to make it as easy as possible to get the technical information you need to contact voters. We’ve suggested that focusing on a state or a tactic (such as calling or texting) might make it easier to get comfortable with both the process and technology.
Writing postcards has been a favorite action for many of you, but on October 10, this action will end. You can still sign up for writing postcards into Georgia here, but perhaps it is time to move on to making calls or sending texts!
Phone banking is one the most effective actions you can take. If you’re nervous about phone banking come to Reclaim Our Vote’s “Phone Bank Training for Introverts” this Thursday at 1:00 PM. Sign up here.
Sending texts from your computer is another way the Democrats and many progressive groups are working to get out the vote, and you can start today! Check out texting information here.
The Resistance Cafes are open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, and we are considering opening a weekend Cafe! People who’ve attended the Cafes have found support, camaraderie, and inspiration in these working sessions. Please consider joining us so we can take action together!
We appreciate the work Lean Left Vermont volunteers are doing. We know it is hard to find the time and energy for this election work. There are moments, however, when we experience firsthand how much this effort means. Maggie Bell, the Volunteer Director for The New Georgia Project, said recently that the fact Vermonters are reaching out to voters in other states is a testament to community unity. “To see you guys come from a different state, a different region, I’m extremely grateful.”
Stay strong, stay unified,

Actions You Can Take!
Go through the materials and resources on website and then join us at the Cafe for a working session.
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:00PM SIGN UP HERE
Spend two hours a week with other activists. Discuss how your actions are going, ask questions, get support, and get the work done!
If you’re new to the Cafe, come at little early at 3:30, and we’ll help figure out which action is best for you.
Rebuild the Blue Wall
In the last decade, Republicans have breached the blue wall in the Great Lakes by taking control of state legislatures and granting Trump a series of critical, razor-thin victories in PA, MI and WI. In 2020, we have the chance to rebuild the blue wall. Lean Left VT is focusing our energy on the state legislatures in PA and WI and a flippable Senate seat in Iowa!
