Powering the Blue Wave
A Volunteer’s Letter to His Friends
You’re receiving this message because I have committed to recruiting two volunteers to work through an organization called LeanLeftVT.
If you’re not at all interested, that’s ok. You can just toss this message in the delete bin.
However, if you are interested, here’s my story behind this message.
I am deeply disturbed by the inaction of Congress and the governing incompetence in the White House. I have felt this way for 3 ½ years. I have groaned, complained, ranted, argued and lost sleep over it. I have struggled to understand what I can do that might make a difference beyond voting in November and supporting (what I believe) is a foregone conclusion: Vermont’s electoral votes will go to the Democratic nominee.
Feeling confident over the outcome of the vote in Vermont brings a feeling of helplessness. And the Covid Pandemic keeps me and probably you, at home. What can I do? Well, I am giving money. But what can I DO?
Here’s what Tim suggests doing. Read more and consider sending a message out to your friends.

For Reluctant Phonebankers
On the Fence about Making Calls?
Granted, talking to strangers is a challenge. “I’m uncomfortable doing this,” a volunteer recently admitted, “but what makes me more uncomfortable is what is happening to our country.” This volunteer and others have faced the making-calls challenge and have found that after a few calls they’re ok and even experience some good, meaningful conversations with voters.
To us get over our nervousness and make us better phonebankers, join Reclaim Our Vote next Saturday, August 29, from 5:00-6:30 EDT when actor (and phonebanker) Charlie Varon and Pastor Ron Buford will help us overcome our qualms and get us on the phone! SIGN UP HERE.

The Communication Tool for Texting
Wednesday, August 26
Peer-to-peer texting (aka textbanking) is an efficient, flexible way to reach voters (and voters-to-be!).
Slack is a communication app used by almost all groups that run textbanking as their “virtual headquarters.” It’s where information-sharing, collaboration, training and support happens! Being comfortable with Slack will make it easier for you plug in to lots of actions, but it is crucial if you want to do peer-to-peer texting!
We’ll go over some slides explaining the basics of Slack and how it works, do some live demonstration of navigating the Slack workspaces and channels of several texting groups, and answer your questions. SIGN UP HERE.
Hotline Volunteers Needed in Pennsylvania
The PA Dems run a voter assistance hotline to answer voters’ questions about registration, mail ballot process, polling locations and more. Join PA Dems training on August 24th or September 14th. If you can’t make either training, a recording and other materials are available upon request to email@example.com.
We continue with postcards to Texas voters of color to encourage them to vote early and avoid long lines on Election Day. We put out the call last week to write 12,000 postcards, and we’re at 10,000! YOU ROCK!
These postcards will be written now but held for mailing until 9/20 (when the most up-to-date information about TX polling locations is made available). SIGN UP HERE
Special message from Reclaim Our Vote:
As we begin to phase out postcards in early October, we are encouraging our wonderful postcard writers to transition to making calls. Worried about phoning? Check out this information — it’s made just for you!

“We’re going to win Wisconsin and win the election
or lose Wisconsin and lose the election.”
Senior Counsel to Trump’s Re-Election Campaign.
In 2016 Trump won Wisconsin by only 22,000 votes. It was the tipping-point state. And now, in 2020, the state is rated a toss-up. On Friday, August 28th, 5–6 PM, join us for The Battle for Wisconsin, a discussion with Lt. Gov Mandela Barnes, first African American Lieutenant Governor in Wisconsin, and Ben Wikler, Chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party. They will discuss key elements for winning Wisconsin and identify ways you can help.
Friday, August 28
5:00-6:00 PM EDT
SIGN UP HERE.
Through our Giving Circles and Lean Left’s fundraising we are now at $86,254 for the year in contributions to candidates and organizations. We’re within striking distance of reaching our $100,000 goal. Let’s reach a little deeper into our pockets or get another 2 friends to join and let’s blow our new goal right out of sight. We can do it.
