SPENCER WETMORE FLIPS SC HOUSE 115
A few weeks ago, we told you about the special election to fill the vacancy in South Carolina State House District 115. Now, we can enthusiastically report that the Democratic candidate, Spencer Wetmore, has been elected to fill the vacancy, flipping the seat to the Democratic Party. She won with an astounding 60% of the vote, and won almost two times as many absentee votes as her Republican opponent. In November 2018, this district voted 51% to 49% in favor of the Republicans, and now, the district was 60% to 39 %, meaning it shifted over 10% in our favor!
Now, Wetmore will serve out the unexpired remainder of former Representative Peter McCoy’s term, representing James Island, Folly Beach, Kiawah, and Seabrook. She will face the same Republican opponent in November, but this victory highlights what we already know: When we focus on supporting our local candidates and turn out to vote, whether it is by mail or in person, we can flip seats. This flip is just the first sign of how strong the Democratic Party is in 2020: locally, statewide, and nationally.
If you want to help keep this seat and flip more seats in under 90 days, you can send a contribution below!

VOLUNTEER TO CALL VOTERS

CAN YOU COMMIT $10 PER MONTH UNTIL NOVEMBER?We found more monthly donors last week, bringing us closer to our goal. A commitment of as little as $5 per month or more can make a difference. If you are already a monthly donor, please consider increasing your giving level by an extra $5 or $10. We need to find $1,600 more per month in recurring donations to build a winning campaign.
