Mitch McConnell’s campaign headquarters sounded the alarm.
His re-election bid was quickly becoming the fight of his career: Polls were showing a tied race, and his Democratic challengers had just outraised him by millions of dollars.
That’s when Republican legislators in McConnell’s home state jumped to the rescue by imposing one of the strictest voter-ID laws in the country – at a time when almost all of the state’s ID-issuing offices were CLOSED due to the global health crisis.
But now, Democrats have a chance to strike back furiously – and we don’t have to wait for November to do it. We have a stellar Democratic nominee, Dr. Karen Berg, running in a special election this Tuesday in a district right down the road from McConnell’s Kentucky house.
We CANNOT let Trump or McConnell win re-election just because GOP state legislators rigged the voting laws.
Defeating Republicans up and down the ballot this fall would be the Republican Party’s most humiliating election performance in nearly a century – and that work starts with helping Dr. Berg defeat her GOP opponent on Tuesday.
But it’s not going to be easy. Democrats have to fight back NOW – by giving races like this one everything we’ve got to help take down Republicans at the ballot box.
