COLUMBUS, OHIO – In response to the case filed by the Ohio Democratic Party on behalf of voter Kiara Sanders in the Ohio Supreme Court, the Ohio Democratic County Chairs Association has issued a letter and statement to all members of the Ohio Legislature, Ohio Secretary of State, and the Ohio Association of Elections Officials outlining concerns of Democratic County Chairs throughout Ohio, many of whom are members of their respective County Board of Elections.
“While we are in agreement with the decision to not host the 2020 Presidential Primary on March 17th, 2020 in an abundance of caution for the safety of Ohioans, there are lasting effects of the decisions that were made that day that have to be considered, “said Janet Carson, President of the Ohio Democratic County Chairs Association.
The letter and statement, attached to this press release, outlines concerns to the financial impacts to County Boards of Elections throughout Ohio, ballot access to all Ohioans, and advocacy for an all-mail model in order to expedite the results and certification of the 2020 Primary Election.
“Throughout this process, the stance of the Ohio Democratic County Chairs Association will be to advocate for as much access to the ballots as possible, providing support to County Boards of Elections that must facilitate some form of a new Election, and to provide candidates and issues the closure needed to move our Democratic Election process forward,” commented Carson. “We are asking the Legislature to execute their Constitutional duty and set the terms of this Election.”
