- HOW TO OUST POSTMASTER GENERAL DEJOYMost of us are unhappy with the job that Postmaster General (PMG) Louis DeJoy is doing and have been since his malicious attempts to slow the mail during the 2020 election season. Delivery delays, among other things, are still an issue for Americans and a Senate hearing was held recently. Many are asking why Biden cannot replace DeJoy. The reason he can’t is that the Postmaster General is selected and appointed by the Board of Governors of the Postal Service. The postmaster general then also sits on the board. The PMG does not serve at the president’s pleasure and can only be dismissed by the Board of Governors. The appointment of the postmaster general does not require Senate confirmation. There are eleven members of the board, including the PMG and Deputy PMG. Nine of the members are appointed by the president. Let’s contact the White House and tell them that we want the President to fill all the open seats on the board and replace members so that DeJoy can be voted out.
- PATH TO HOUSE CONTROL MAY RUN THROUGH COUP PLOTTER’S DISTRICT
Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) was a key co-conspirator in Trump’s coup attempt and as a leading figure in the House Freedom Caucus has fought to shut down our government and opposed infrastructure investment and the Violence Against Women Act. Unlike many of the major MAGA figures, however, Perry’s seat may be genuinely competitive in November – something he seems well aware of, given he is now trying to distance from an a national abortion ban bill he still sponsors. Analysis by Daily Kos Elections shows Trump only beat Biden in the 10th by four points in 2020, Josh Shapiro won by 12 here in 2022, and Democrats now hold a majority on the Dauphin County commission for the first time in more than a century. Cook Political Report has rated PA-10 as ‘lean GOP’ and highlighted the strength of Democratic nominee Janelle Stelson, a longtime local TV anchor who has been endorsed by EMILY’s List and The United Mine Workers. Let’s help boost Janelle’s message on social media and sign up to volunteer. We can also consider a donation if we’re able here.
- REGISTERING DEMOCRATS IN FLORIDA – TEXTBANK TOMORROW
We all know Florida has not been an easy environment for Democrats in recent years, but with the state featuring one of just two Republican-held Senate seats rated as possibly competitive this cycle and a huge referendum on securing abortion rights on the ballot, we cannot afford to ignore it. Recent poll results also indicate Florida’s electoral votes are up for grabs, with Trump leading by just two points among likely voters and 9% of his voters suggesting they’d be less likely to vote for him if he’s convicted of a crime before November. The Florida Democratic Party and Field Team Six are coming together for a textbank to reach and help register likely Dem voters in Florida on WEDNESDAY, MAY 1ST at 1:00pm. Let’s sign up to join the texting here. (We can also join the ranks of volunteers working on the reproductive rights ballot initiative here.)
STATE-SPECIFIC ACTIONS
- AL, AR, FL, GA, ID, IN, IA, KS, MO, NE, ND, OK, SC, SD, TN, UT, WV – PROTECT THE PREGNANT WORKERS FAIRNESS ACTEmployers must now try to accommodate employees’ requests for time off for pregnancy-related conditions including getting an abortion or giving birth. The time off can be unpaid, but employers who deny requests must prove the reason is undue hardship on the business, according to new regulations from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Currently, 17 states are suing to remove abortion accommodations. If we live in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, or West Virginia, let’s tell our state Attorney General that we do not support the lawsuit restricting the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.
