Protect our kids from child labor, book bans, and transphobia, plus more ways to work for progress!

Contact all members of Congress:

Contact White House or other federal agencies:

  • STOP CHILD LABOR, STRENGTHEN WORKER PROTECTION
As the Biden administration expands its investigation into the exploitation of migrant children, it’s worth remembering that the agencies charged with protecting workers and enforcing labor laws—the Department of Labor and the National Labor Relations Board—are chronically underfundedLet’s tell our Members of Congress to fully fund these agencies so they have enough resources to robustly investigate and enforce violations of our labor protection laws.
  • FIGHT BACK AGAINST BOOK BANNING IN LIBRARIES
Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias proposed a bill to fight back against right-wing pressure to ban books. The Right to Read Bill (HB 2789) requires libraries to prohibit banning controversial materials and follow the ALA Library Bill of Rights. Libraries that don’t comply will not be eligible for state grantsWe can check out the bill here, then contact our state representatives and tell them we want similar bills passed in our states.

  • GET ELECTION REMINDERS
Extremist right-wingers have been eyeing the takeover of school boards across the country for a while now, with an agenda to censor our children’s education. In 2023, there will be school board elections in the states of AK, AR, CO, ID, IL, IA, KS, KY, LA, MN, MS, MO, NE, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TX, VA, WA, and WI. If we are in these states, let’s use this Ballotpedia page to look up whether our school district is having an election in 2023 and get the date on our calendars. We can also sign up for election reminders from TurboVote, which will make sure we never miss an election, including those upcoming in multiple states this month.

  • WRITE LETTERS FOR THE WISCONSIN SUPREME COURT
As they did successfully in the 2020 and 2022 elections, Vote Forward is organizing a letter writing campaign for the critical Wisconsin Supreme Court race geared at progressive-leaning people who are registered to vote but often don’t vote in elections. The focus is personal and non-partisan, and the message is centered around why it’s important to vote. It’s easy to sign up at VoteFwd and people can help by adopting as few as five voters or as many as they want. Let’s volunteer now! We can write the letters any time in the next two weeks and then mail them on March 28.
