It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to our friend, Marcia Bunney. Marcia was a fierce resister who drew upon her life’s experiences to help others.
Throughout her life, Marcia became a leader in the fight for women’s rights. Working with the ACLU, Marcia was a driving force in major federal litigation regarding medical care in women’s prisons. Her efforts paved the way for change in the state of California.
She wrote countless essays and columns in her fight for incarcerated women. She contributed to two books. One of them, “Harsh Punishment”, is currently used as a text in criminal justice and women’s studies courses.
More recently, Maria enjoyed working with the New Beginnings Law Center.
We appreciate her volunteer work with DemCast, as California captain. She often said that her goal was to continue to learn and find ways to give back.
She will be missed by us all.
