I wasn’t ready to be pregnant. I had plans, and becoming a mom at this stage of my life wasn’t one of them. We were shocked. It was emotional, but we embraced this new future.
At 12 weeks, the doctor told us there wasn’t a heartbeat. No baby. No life.
I had a D&C which likely saved my life. It therefore saved the life of the three children I eventually had.
Today, that procedure would be illegal in many states. A healthcare decision between my partner, my doctor, and me would now be decided by six suppressed justices.
