Election Day, November 8, 2022

New Hampshire

Reaching out to young people in New Hampshire to help them make a plan to vote is critical for the September 13th Primary and the November elections! We know that building the power of the youth vote is crucial to our democracy, and that starts by getting youth to the polls during midterm and local elections.

Join the NextGen America text team this week, Monday, and Wednesday & Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. They will provide the script, texting platform, training, and a community to connect with other NextGen volunteers! It is a blast. SIGN UP HERE!

It’s simple. Talking one-on-one with voters and volunteers is one of THE most important ways we can influence someone’s choices during an election year—choices like whether to vote or not to vote, whether to volunteer or not to volunteer. Straightforward conversations about issues that concern voters and volunteers can result in a positive connection and a step toward action. Here are two ways you can connect with NC voters and volunteers this week:

  • Recruit poll observers with the NC Voter Protection Team. Poll observers are volunteers with eyes on the ground during early voting and on election day to report long lines, broken machines, intimidation, and more. Learn more here.
  • We’re joining the Carolina Federation to check in with voters and encourage their participation in the midterms. Day One: Sunday, August 21, 5-8 pm. CF will provide comprehensive training as well as a review of the script, which includes a proven story-telling technique. SIGN UP HERE!

Thanks to a non-partisan redistricting committee that created a more fair map, Democrats have a decent chance at flipping the state legislature blue!  Democrats can then go on the offensive to improve the lives of Pennsylvanians rather than playing defense with a veto. We need to get voters engaged and out to vote!

  • Women to Women Wednesdays, 6:00 PM with Turn PA Blue and the PA House Democrats. A weekly phone bank to Pennyslvania’s women voters. These powerful conversations include a discussion of abortion, gun violence, and other sensitive issues. SIGN UP HERE.

Keep WI Republicans from gaining a supermajority in the State legislature. Booting RonJon out of the Senate would be wonderful. However, the most important races in Wisconsin are keeping Tony Evers in the governor’s office and ensuring that Republicans cannot gain a veto-proof majority in the state legislature. In June, SCOTUS ensured that Wisconsinites must live with arguably the most gerrymandered state legislative map in the country for another 10 years.

  • The best way to help remotely?  Make calls with Sister District. No experience is necessary.  You will get the training and support that you need.  All you need is a strong desire to support democracy in the Badger State.
  • Sister District National Phonebank Wednesdays at 6:00 ET
  • Wisconsin Sister District Phonebank Thursdays at 7:00 ET

Defending Democracy in Wisconsin

Don’t let a Trump sycophant run Wisconsin.

“Tim Michels, a wealthy Connecticut businessman with no elected experience, scattershot Wisconsin residency, and the endorsement of a twice-impeached and legally-challenged former president will be the Republican Party nominee attempting to unseat Democratic Gov. Tony Evers in November.”  UpNorthNews

This month we return to America’s favorite battleground, Wisconsin, where the state GOP is still trying to overturn the 2020 election. If we want anything like sanity in a state that can decide our national elections, we need to reelect Tony Evers and stop the GOP from getting a veto-proof majority.

Lean Left is supporting Evers and two fragile incumbents in the state legislature, who can make sure we can protect democracy and free elections. The Evers race has flown under the radar for many Democrats, but it’s arguably the most consequential governor’s race–and the most underfunded–of the 2022 election.

Sunday, August 21, 5-8 PM: Flipping a U.S. Senate Seat in North Carolina
Carolina Federation, one of the most inclusive grassroots organizations in NC, is hosting its first online phonebank series. We’ll call for US Senate candidate Cheri Beasley—one of our best chances to flip a Republican-held Senate seat—and top state legislative candidate Carla Catalán Day—running for a red-to-blue district. Lean Left will continue making these phone calls through November, so take this first training with CF and then join us at our Sunday PowerHours. SIGN UP HERE!

Monday, August 22, 2:30 pm All In for NC hosts its monthly meeting with Blair Reeves, founder and executive director of Carolina Forward, North Carolina’s leading Democratic communications organization. Blair will discuss how Democrats can win in NC in 2022 and build for the future. He’ll be joined by Jillian Johnson, Durham City Councilor, and an NC representative for the Movement Voter Project. SIGN UP HERE.

Every Sunday between now and November 8 we’ll be making calls together at the Lean Left PowerHour. Show up anytime between 3 and 5 pm, then spend an hour working with other like-minded activists. If you only have one hour per week to dedicate to strengthening our democracy, PowerHours are the place for you! Here’s how to join us.
