JD Vance compares abortion to slavery

11 mins read

Just when we thought JD Vance couldn’t be any more offensive – he compares a woman’s right to privacy and reproductive freedom to slavery.

JD Vance’s views on abortion are demeaning, anti-scientific, and out of touch with the majority of Ohioans and Americans.

In addition to comparing abortion to slavery, Vance believes that survivors of rape and incest should be forced to give birth. He even called rape “inconvenient.”

NEW Ohio Poll

 Tim Ryan: 48%

 J.D. Vance: 46%

Despite the GOP dumping over $80 million into Ohio, a new poll released TODAY shows us beating JD Vance 48 to 46.

JD Vance might have billionaire backers like Peter Thiel and Donald Trump to fund vicious attacks against us, but this proves we have what it takes to do the impossible and flip Ohio blue.

Look folks, we can’t take this 2-point lead for granted. We’ve still got a tough fight ahead and Republicans will stop at nothing to win this race and snatch back the gavel for Mitch McConnell.

The Ohio Republican candidate who trampled police barricades on January 6

A crucial Ohio Congressional seat could soon be taken by an extremist who tried to overthrow our democracy.

“Ultra-Maga” insurrectionist J.R. Majewski – who proudly breached police barricades on January 6 – is running for Congress in Ohio’s competitive 9th Congressional District against Rep. Marcy Kaptur.

Majewski has openly supported QAnon and said that he wants Republican-controlled states to secede from the United States, but that’s not all. Hours after seven people were killed at the mass shooting at a Highland Park, Illinois 4th of July parade, Majewski made it clear he believes mass shootings are an acceptable price to pay for his right to own assault weapons.

Ohio deserves better than anti-democracy, extremist candidates like Majewski who want to peddle dangerous and radical lies on Capitol Hill in our names.

A Message on Hope-in-Action from Chairwoman Walters

A few weeks ago, extremists on the U.S. Supreme Court decided that a politician has the right to insert himself – and it’s almost always himself – into our personal, medical decisions. Thanks to Republican Governor Mike DeWine and Attorney General Dave Yost, on Friday, June 24 at 5:30pm, the six-week abortion ban was law in Ohio. It was one of the darkest days in our American democracy, and I don’t know about you, but I’m mad as hell.

And make no mistake, that Friday was the culmination of a 50-year pre-meditated assault on our right to choose from Republicans like Mike DeWine and J.D. Vance. They’ll stop at nothing to punish women, including survivors of rape and incest, for getting an abortion. They’ll stop at nothing to take away our choices. But in this moment, there are some choices they can’t take away from us. We can choose hope. We can choose action. We can choose to step up to the fight.

The fight for justice, equality and fairness is not a short or easy one.

There are too many Ohioans out there who can’t afford to have us sit on the sidelines and throw our hands in the air.

The time to come together and fight for our collective rights is now. And last weekend, we saw thousands of Ohioans ready to take on that fight with us.

Like many organizations across the country, the Ohio Democratic Party paused and brought together our team to share a moment of solidarity in our fear, and talk about the path ahead. I was brought to tears by the urgency and fire our staff shared in that space. They stepped up to the fight. They insisted that the Ohio Democratic Party take action now. They were ready to put the organizing machine they’ve been building for months to the test.

By 6:30 on Friday night, we launched the We Won’t Go Back Rally at the Ohio Statehouse. We overcame obstacles like the denial of our permit to rally and a short timeframe to organize.  The team worked for almost 40 hours straight to put together an event that would draw Ohioans from all across the state to rally, register, and join us in the fight to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in November.

Look at what happened:

Even better? We registered hundreds of voters and thousands of people from all over Ohio signed up to volunteer to elect Democrats in their community. One reporter covering the event told us the rally was the most electrified crowd they’d seen since the Obama campaign.

We could not have done any of this without you. Your early investment helped us put staff all over Ohio to build the organizing structure we need to build real power. We put this structure to the test and it exceeded our wildest expectations.

A heartfelt thank you.

Abortion is on the ballot in Ohio this year. We must do all we can to elect Tim Ryan to the U.S. Senate, Nan Whaley as Governor, send Marcy Kaptur, Greg Landsman and Emilia Sykes to Congress, and put Jennifer Brunner, Marilyn Zayas, and Terri Jamison on the Ohio Supreme Court. The lives of Ohio women are on the line. We have more work to do, but I can’t wait to see what this team can accomplish between now and November.

In Solidarity,

Liz Walters

Ohio Democrats Family Reunion

The 2022 Ohio Democratic Party Family Reunion has been postponed to Saturday, September 24. Doors open at 1pm.
The Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe underscores the high stakes of November’s election: abortion and reproductive rights are on the ballot. And make no mistake: this decision is the result of relentless efforts by Republican politicians like Mike DeWine and J.D. Vance to rip away the fundamental right to an abortion.
Our efforts to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, from Nan Whaley to Tim Ryan on down, have never been more important. We are laser focused on this work.
Ohio Democrats are committing ourselves to a summer of action. This moment is too important to pass.
We look forward to gathering together as a family later this fall. To RSVP to the 2022 Ohio Democrats Family Reunion, please do so using this link.

Until Next Week
Summer is here and time is ticking for us to win this November.

We have a lot of work to do to get more field organizers on the ground in every corner of the state. We have offices to open, phones banks to hold, canvasses to launch, and of course – thousands of unregistered Democrats to register by Election Day. To do this, we need your help and we need it now. Please consider contributing as much as you can to help build the infrastructure needed to win.

If you’re unsure about how much you can still contribute to help us win in November and beyond, simply reply to this email. My team will respond with what you can still do to help us grow the team.

As always, thank you for standing with us. We are so grateful for your incredible support.

I hope to see you out on the campaign trail,
