As we write this to you, budget negotiations are heating up in Harrisburg and are expected to continue over the weekend and into early next week.
Those negotiations will decide whether next state budget will put the interests of the working people of our state first or helps billionaire and millionaire owners of corporations?
No matter whether we are in a city, suburb, small town, or rural part of the state or whether we are Black, brown, or white, old or young, rich or poor, the pandemic and its aftermath have been tough for us.
Yet for a year, the Republican controlled General Assembly has refused to use the accumulated $15 billion state surplus–from federal relief funding and state surplus revenues – to help Pennsylvanians struggling to afford groceries, gasoline, housing, child care, and other essentials.
They have refused to provide support to small, locally owned businesses struggling to stay afloat.
And they have refused to invest in education so that all of us can have a brighter future.
Instead, they have voted to cut corporate tax rates in Pennsylvania while continuing to allow wealthy multi-national corporations to pay no corporate taxes at all.
Your legislators needs to hear from you.
They need to hear that you want the state surplus to be used to help Pennsylvania families, not billionaire and millionaire owners of corporations.
Did you know that Pennsylvania’s 17 billionaires more than doubled their wealth during the pandemic? They got $33 billion dollars richer, while thousands of the rest of us lost jobs, families were evicted, and hundreds of thousands died.
Yet Republicans say we can afford to hand out $1 billion in additional tax breaks towealthy corporations every year but can’t afford to help the families of Pennsylvania.
By acting together we can tell Pennsylvania legislators that their priority should be all of us, not wealthy, multi-national corporations that pay nothing in corporate taxes.
Thank you for taking action!
