While You Celebrate Today’s Holiday

Happy 4th of July!

Today we celebrate the birth of our nation and the brave men and women who have served or are currently serving in the military. It’s a time to remember those who lost their lives while fighting to protect our country and a time to think about how we can work to make our country better than the day before — because we’re still fighting for a more equal and just America.

The truth is, while we celebrate today’s holiday, we must also recognize that many Americans — especially Black Americans — are still fighting for equal rights. Earlier this weekend, we remembered the anniversary of the Civil Rights Act — landmark legislation that prevented racial discrimination in the workplace. It’s important that we remember the work and sacrifices of those in the past for a better future for all, and that’s what we can do today.

No matter how you’re celebrating today’s holiday, we urge you to take the time to remember that even with all the work we’ve accomplished to make our country great, we still have work to do.

Wishing you a safe and happy holiday,

Team ODP
