Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July! The French playwright, Albert Camus, said, “Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better.” We think this Independence Day seems different compared to last year’s – more hopeful, perhaps? Some might argue that the year we’ve all experienced should leave us jaded, but this Fourth of July, let us choose optimism. Despite our hellacious pandemic year, there is room to celebrate because that’s how July 4th began in our country – as a celebration.

We are at a precipice – a time and a chance to do better and be better. We elected a Democrat into the Oval Office with a timely plan to set our Country on a path to healing, and Democratic majorities in both the House and the Senate passed the American Rescue Plan. Over 60% of Michiganders have at least one Covid-19 vaccination, and just this past week, to encourage everyone to get vaccinated, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced a sweepstake that every eligible citizen can enter (with at least one covid vaccination) to win millions. Oakland County was allotted $244.2 million from the American Rescue Plan, increasing the County’s ability to address public health issues resulting from Covid-19 and offsetting the economic impact of the pandemic on small businesses and helping citizens throughout the County.

We know there’s so much more to do but for today, July 4th, we can celebrate where we are right now, remember and honor those we’ve lost in the last year, and keep progressing forward to a better future for everyone.

Enjoy this time with family and friends and stay safe!
