The next president will face many crucial issues: climate change, gun violence, the coronavirus pandemic, and systemic racism in America, to name a few. But in order for that administration to be effective, we need to build a stronger and more representative democracy.
That’s why the next president must make it a priority to demand that Congress pass the For the People Act (HR 1)—which the House passed in all the way back in March 2019. This package of proven reforms would:
- Protect voters from discrimination and expand access to the ballot
- Put the interests of ordinary Americans ahead of those of corporate donors
- Draw fair electoral districts so that every voter has equal value
- Hold elected officials to the highest ethical standards
It’s time to make the political system more inclusive, responsive, and representative. It’s time for the American democracy to look like the American people.
Please sign the petition and add your voice to the choir of Americans demanding a democracy that works for all of us. Day 1 is for democracy.
