Deadline on Health Insurance Access and Medicaid Expansion Digital Vigil in the Southeast

Deadline for comments is September 16th.

Make no mistake that this is an effort to dismantle the healthcare.gov portal that will weaken protections for Georgia health care consumers and possibly for others around the country. The governor of our state has recently come under fire for this plan.

We do not believe that brokers who have an incentive to sell more plans that will benefit the insurance industry (their paycheck) as opposed to the consumer advocates will lead to a good place. Leave your opinion today at www.coverga.org

Please join us for the first ever Southerners for Medicaid Expansion Digital Vigil on October 1 at 7pm EST/6pm Central Time live on Zoom and the NC Justice Center

Our Keynote Speaker is Rev. Dr. William Barber. The Southerners for Medicaid expansion is made up of the 8 states – that have not yet expanded Medicaid – Texas, Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee and Florida, who are uniting in Southern Solidarity to demand health coverage for their people during COVID19 and beyond.

With over 180,000 Americans dead from COVID-19 and tens of thousands of Southerners who have died from not expanding Medicaid, we invite you to join us for this action of remembrance to honor the lives of people who have suffered from being uninsured and unable to get the healthcare they need.

The Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II is the President & Senior Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach, and Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call For Moral Revival. Rev. Dr. Barber is also the architect of the Forward Together Moral Movement that gained national acclaim with its Moral Monday protests at the North Carolina General Assembly in 2013. He is the 2015 recipient of the Puffin Award and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Award, a 2018 MacArthur Foundation genius award recipient, and he is one of the 2019 recipients of the North Carolina Award, the state’s highest civilian honor.
