Friends –

Sonia Sotomayor isn’t letting the Supreme Court’s latest attack on voting rights go forward without a fight.

In another attack on our democracy, the court’s right-wing majority just allowed a lower court to step in and block up to 1.4 million Floridians from casting ballots in this upcoming election – even though voters overwhelmingly decided to restore those citizens’ voting rights through a 2018 ballot initiative.

In her dissent, Justice Sotomayor scolded the court, warning that “this Court’s inaction continues a trend of condoning disenfranchisement.”

The ‘trend’ identified by Justice Sotomayor couldn’t be more obvious: When lower courts step in to protect voters’ rights, the conservatives on the Supreme Court stop them. But when lower courts’ actions disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters, John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh give them a green light.

One thing is clear: Voting rights are on the ballot this November, and we can’t let Roberts and Kavanaugh have the final word. Can you pitch in $10 now to help elect state Democrats in every corner of the country?

Republicans are doing EVERYTHING they can to block more people from voting, especially in key battleground states.

Floridians voted overwhelmingly in 2018 to restore voting rights to people who have already repaid their debt to society. But rather than giving people the right to vote, GOP legislators undermined the will of the voters and imposed a modern-day poll tax on most of those citizens.

In response, Justice Sotomayor said that this latest decision “prevents thousands of otherwise eligible voters from participating… simply because they are poor.” And if we don’t act urgently, we have all the reason to believe that more rulings just like this will disenfranchise countless voters across the nation.

The ONLY way we can save our democracy is by defeating Republicans across the country. Please pitch in $10 to help elect state Democrats and END GOP rule nationwide >>
