Letter to the Editor

1 min read

On April 7, 2020, the FL Association of Supervisors of Elections sent a letter to Governor DeSantis, requesting he issue an Executive Order, much as was issued after Hurricane Michael devastated Bay County, to allow extending early voting, moving polling places for health and safety and hiring more poll workers. Each county wants the option to manage their elections as they deem safe and fair, including 22 days of early voting right up to polls closing on Election Day at 700 PM. They want the freedom to consolidate and/or move polling places. They want extended time to mail vote by mail ballots ahead of elections and they want to start tabulating vote by mail ballots ahead of poll closings after the public testing of the tabulation equipment has taken place.

None of these are unreasonable requests. The federal government has passed almost $4 Billion to assist states in conducting elections due to the pandemic. DeSantis, as of this writing, has finally accepted the money nor has he responded to the Supervisors of Elections unanimous request letter.

DeSantis needs to walk and chew gum at the same time and quit doing daily rosy updates from friendly venues. We can get that from the president.
