Rapid Response Request: Anti-Voting Bill SB221 Passed Committee, School Vouchers

Ah yes, the week leading up to Crossover Day at the state capitol is one of the most dangerous weeks of the year only to be outdone the week before sine die, the end of the legislative session.

In an unsurprising but still confounding act, senate Republicans passed #SB221 out of committee sending this anti-democracy, conspiracy-filled bill to the full Senate for a vote. This article from Ga Public Broadcasting highlights some of the inconsistencies and problems with the bill. Unfunded mandate is at the top of the list. An update on the madness around this bill can be found in this Georgia Recorder article

Call your senator and ask them to vote no on SB 221. Call as soon as you are able. Find your state senator at https://openstates.org/find_your_legislator/

New School Voucher Bill
See this information from Fund Georgia’s Future and use their script to make your voice heard. Lawmakers dropped a new voucher bill this week (Senate  Bill 233) and it’s poised to drain millions away from public schools to discriminatory private education. We anticipate that the Senate Education and Youth committee will vote it out (5 of the 13 members of the committee are signers on the bill) and it could be on the Senate floor as early as Thursday. Call/email/text your senator and ask them to vote NO on Senate Bill 233. Then send this email to five other people who will do the same.
