Flip It Blue, Organizing Our Way to Victory!

February 3, 12pmET

What does it take to flip a U.S. Senate seat, a Virginia House of Delegates seat, or even a county Supervisor seat from red to blue? This is the question we’ll be examining today on the Friday Power Lunch.

One of the great success stories of the 2022 election midterms was Pennsylvania flipping 12 House seats to take back the majority and flipping the U.S. Senate seat with the victory of Democrat John Fetterman over retiring Republican Sen. Pat Toomey. All the twists and turns and ultimate Democratic wins in Pennsylvania tell a story of years of grassroots organizing finally paying off. Jamie Perrapato Executive Director of Turn PA Blue will share their tactics, strategies, and lessons learned.

In Virginia, we have the opportunity to flip a Supervisor seat in the February 21 Special Election. We will talk to Kerensa Sumerthe Democratic candidate for the Gainesville Supervisor seat, about the remaining weeks of her grassroots campaign.

Last week, Missouri activist Jess Piper spoke about the challenges faced by rural Democratic candidates running in red districts. As she so eloquently summarized: “No one is coming to save us. We have to save ourselves.”Our rural candidates in Virginia know these challenges and are doing something about them. Sara Ratcliffe, candidate in the new HD 62, will share how candidates in her area are forming support communities and building on the ground game started in their area in 2022 by the Spanberger campaign.
