Republicans push to ban teenage sex

What’s the difference between extreme Christian conservatives and the Taliban when forcing their values on everyone else?

Trump-appointed Texas judge Matthew Kacsmaryk last week handed down a decision claiming that Title X, a federal program that offers grants to family-planning services, which can treat minors, “violates the constitutional right of parents to direct the upbringing of their children.” – Heather Cox Richardson in Letters From An American

See how teenage sex could be outlawed in America under this Republican plan. What could future GOP restrictions look like? Take the quiz “Taliban or Republican” by Drew Sheneman.

Right wing Christian judicial activism

The Constitution only allows people who have ‘standing’ or been injured in some way by a federal program file a lawsuit against it.

A father who says he is “raising each of his daughters in accordance with Christian teaching on matters of sexuality, which requires unmarried children to practice abstinence and refrain from sexual intercourse until marriage.” The father does not claim that he has ever sought Title X-funded care, but he wants to stop Title X-funded programs from offering contraception to minors.

Republicans are like American Taliban who have packed the Supreme Court and deny women their rights.

Matthew Kacsmaryk

Matthew Kacsmaryk, a Trump appointee to a federal court in Texas, spent much of his career trying to interfere with other people’s sexuality.

A former lawyer at a religious conservative litigation shop, Kacsmaryk denounced, in a 2015 article, a so-called “Sexual Revolution” that began in the 1960s and 1970s, and which “sought public affirmation of the lie that the human person is an autonomous blob of Silly Putty unconstrained by nature or biology, and that marriage, sexuality, gender identity, and even the unborn child must yield to the erotic desires of liberated adults.”

Kacsmaryk would be the first federal judge to embrace a challenge to the federal right to birth control after the Supreme Court’s June decision eliminating the right to an abortion. He issued an opinion in Deanda v. Becerra that attacks Title X, a federal program that offers grants to health providers that fund voluntary and confidential family planning services to patients. Federal law requires the Title X program to include “services for adolescents.” – VOX

We decide what’s possible

Trump Republicans are trying to take away our freedoms, from banning abortion nationwide, to ending Social Security and Medicare in five years, to allowing politicians to overturn the will of the people with no regard for your vote. This November our rights, benefits, and freedoms were on the ballot. Democrats will protect our freedoms, to breathe clean air, to get the affordable health care we need, and to decide whether and when we grow our families.

In 2020, we defeated Trump. This November, we will defeat Trumpism. As voters, we decide what’s possible. – Research Collaborative

Take Away: Challenge Republican religious judicial activism that is denying women their freedoms.
