California Vance a “Rich Twat?”
In an interview this week with Vogue, The Hunger Games star, Jennifer Lawrence, called J.D. Vance “a rich twat.”
Clearly, J-Law sees Vance as an elitist who cosplays as a working class hero.
Now, I’m not saying J.D. Vance is a rich twat. Jennifer Lawrence called J.D. Vance a rich twat.
Ohio at the Whitehouse
On Wednesday, the White House hosted nearly 50 local elected officials and community leaders from across Ohio. The event was the first in a series of Communities in Action meetings where local leaders and senior administration officials discuss how they can work together to implement President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act.
We know the importance of lifting up our local elected officials, and so does President Biden. The American Rescue Plan sent more that $5.3 billion to Ohio with an additional $2.2 billion straight to Ohio’s cities.
Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith (the first African American woman to become mayor in a town won twice by Donald Trump) shared the picture below, which was later tweeted out by the White House.
Women’s Rights are Under Attack in Mike DeWine’s Ohio
This week, the Dayton area’s sole abortion clinic announced plans to close in mid-September thanks to Mike DeWine’s dangerous and extreme actions on abortion since the fall of Roe v. Wade. The closure of this clinic means women in Dayton and the surrounding communities will be forced to travel far distances for critical healthcare.
Heart-wrenching stories continue to surface about Ohio women and children having to travel out of state because of Mike DeWine and Dave Yost. Nan Whaley has fought to keep the Dayton clinic open, and as governor, she will not back down.
Help us make sure she’s elected.
Mike DeWine wants you to believe he’s a moderate.
But here’s the deal: Mike DeWine is extreme. In fact, he’s the most extreme Governor on abortion in the entire country.
He signs every gun bill that gets to his desk. He’s the reason there are guns in your elementary schools.
He’s not your grandfather’s Republican. He’s a MAGA Republican. And he was just endorsed by that criminal in Florida.
Deja-Vu DeWine Dodges Debate
Governor DeWine continues to skip out on debates from his challenger, candidate for Governor Nan Whaley.
An article in The Ohio Capital Journal this week took us on a trip down memory lane analyzing each time DeWine has been challenged to a debate while running for office. As it turns out, DeWine has a history of ditching responsibilities when it doesn’t serve his personal interests. Who’s surprised? After his involvement in the largest corruption scheme in Ohio’s history, we knew he couldn’t be trusted.
Nan Whaley is the clear choice for Ohio’s next Governor. Support her campaign today.
New Tim Ryan Ad
Tim Ryan launched a new ad this week yet again highlighting Vance’s sham non-profit and the damage it caused Ohioans.
An Ohio mother recounts her son Joe’s battle with an OxyContin addiction that ultimately took his life. She calls out JD Vance for “betraying” her family by “pretending” to help kids like her son while his sham non-profit brought a doctor with a well-documented record backing pharmaceutical companies.
JD Vance is a fraud and it’s time that Ohioans realize that. Help us keep ads like these on air.
This week, Ohio Democrats held a training session with all of the field organizers around the state to kick off our favorite season (No, not Pumpkin Spice Season) – GOTV Season.
Because of supporters like you, Ohio has built the largest grassroots, field operation in the country to turn out voters in November. Thank you.
If you would like to help us expand this room of organizers to elect Democrats this fall, consider a contribution to help us hire additional field organizers.
Flavor of the Week
This week, we asked Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith about her favorite Ohio ice cream and she said…
“Founders Favorite from Cold Stone Creamery”
Founder’s Favorite features sweet cream ice cream, pecans, brownies, caramel and fudge. Have one for us, Mayor!
Mayor Smith is the first woman and first Black Ohioan to be elected in Lima – a city that Trump won twice. Learn more about the rising star here.
Until Next Week
Summer is almost over and time is ticking for us to win this November.
We have a lot of work to do to get more field organizers on the ground in every corner of the state. We have offices to open, phones banks to hold, canvasses to launch, and of course – thousands of unregistered Democrats to register by Election Day. To do this, we need your help and we need it now. Please consider contributing as much as you can to help build the infrastructure needed to win.
If you’re unsure about how much you can still contribute to help us win in November and beyond, simply reply to this email. My team will respond with what you can still do to help us grow the team.
As always, thank you for standing with us. We are so grateful for your incredible support.
I hope to see you out on the campaign trail,

Invite: HVA w/David Pepper 9/18 in Indy
JOIN OUR LAUNCH PARTY IN INDY NEXT SUNDAY!
Please join us for our launch party featuring David Pepper, author of Laboratories of Autocracy and advocate for pro-democracy candidates at the state level in Ohio and other red states (like Indiana!)
We’ve founded Hoosier Victory Alliance as a long-term project to support candidates for the state legislature with communications tools: strategy and messaging expertise, social media support, graphic design, organic reach, and data! We want to break down the silos that separate Hoosier pro-democracy organizations and individuals from each other and help create the conditions that will help us win!
Why is David Pepper our Featured Speaker? David Pepper is the author of Laboratories of Autocracy. His book and near-daily Twitter whiteboard lessons show how statehouses have become so extreme and authoritarian, passing extremist laws that don’t reflect the values of the state’s residents (picture SB1 and similar laws in Ohio, TX, FL, OK and others). David Pepper is also a founder of the group Blue Ohio, which is also dedicated to electing more pro=democracy members to Ohio state offices to break the hold of the authoritarian right wing. Both he, and we, believe that Dems need to compete for EVERY OFFICE. EVERY LEVEL. EVERY TIME.
We are grateful for your generosity to help us get started with strategy expertise, software, and data subscriptions. We’d be delighted to discuss our plans in more detail for those who are interested in becoming founding members.
