Friends,

The Ohio Scoop is your weekly campaign fix, filled with the most up-to-date information about Ohio Democrats and everything happening on the campaign trail here in Ohio. We’re here so you can get your political scoop, all in one place.

If you’re new to the list, welcome. You were added because you are one of Ohio Democrats’ best supporters. For those of you who are returning, welcome back.

We had a busy week on the campaign trail, so let’s jump right in.

JD is running a DUMPSTER FIRE Campaign

While Tim Ryan’s campaign is breaking fundraising records debt free, California Vance is sweating in a basement, thinking about how much personal money he loaned his campaign to remain competitive. FEC records show he lent his campaign $700,000 to stay afloat. Now, his campaign is prioritizing paying off that debt over preparing for the General Election.

You love to see it.

While JD’s campaign is a disaster, he’s still extremely dangerous. Now is the time to double down and help Tim Ryan expand his lead. Join us in that effort.

Ohio Democrats Family Reunion

New Ad Alert

Tim Ryan’s latest ad calls out JD Vance for being full of s$%t.

The story goes – JD Vance moved to Ohio from California to open a nonprofit with the goal of solving the opioid epidemic. But, that’s not exactly how the scheme played out.

The money in the nonprofit was never used to help Ohioans struggling with addiction. Instead, the money went to pay for consultants to help advance JD Vance’s political career. It’s pretty clear, JD Vance is a fraud, and frankly, gross.

Helping Ohio families isn’t a political performance and Tim Ryan proves it every day serving in Congress. Click here to help ensure Tim defeats Vance this November.

Redistricting Split

Has anyone tried unplugging the Ohio Redistricting Commission and plugging it back in?

It is as tiring to write as it is to read, but the Ohio Supreme Court struck down Ohio’s maps for the SEVENTH time. To no surprise, a bipartisan majority on the Ohio Supreme Court found the congressional maps unduly favor Republicans (13 to 2 seats) with Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor siding with the Dems on the bench. This will not affect the General Election maps, but it does shed light on the urgency of Ohio’s congressional races this fall. We will do everything we can to re-elect Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur and flip OH-1 and OH-13 by electing Greg Landsman and Emilia Sykes

Fact Check: FALSE

Mike DeWine claimed on Twitter this weekend that he will always support Ohio law enforcement, but his actions tell a different story. Ohio’s largest police union said ‘our voices are not heard’ when discussing recent actions by DeWine to sign dangerous gun bills into law. Time and again, DeWine has said one thing and done another when it comes to law enforcement.

We need to do everything we can to help Nan Whaley win in November. Please help us in that effort.

THE GOP IS COMING FOR YOU

Eight U.S. Representatives from Ohio, led by Jim Jordan and Steve Chabot, voted NO on the “Respect for Marriage Act,” a bill to provide protections for same-sex couples. The bill was passed in the House in anticipation of the conservative Supreme Court’s possible reversal of Obergefell

Marriage equality was illegal in Ohio before the Obergefell decision (a case brought to the US Supreme Court by Jim Obergefell in Ohio who is now running for the statehouse.) Make no mistake, marriage equality is on the line and Ohio Republicans will do everything they can to take this fundamental right away.

Ohio Democrats call on Dave Yost to Resign

Dave Yost is a pig and our Chairwoman, Liz Walters, is O-V-E-R him.

This week, Ohio Democratic Party Chair Elizabeth Walters called on Dave Yost to resign as Attorney General. Yost rushed to implement a six-week abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest and then questioned the story of a ten-year-old rape victim who suffered even more by having to travel out of state to receive critical reproductive healthcare because of Yost’s ban.

Yost has refused to apologize to the victim and continues to spread misinformation about the law he helped implement, demonstrating that he’s not qualified to serve as Ohio’s Attorney General any longer.

You go, Chairwoman.

Flavor of the week from Councilmember Greg Landsman

In honor of his great fundraising haul, we’re excited to re-feature Greg Landsman’s Flavor of the Week. Landsman’s campaign for OH-01 raised over $550,000 in Q2 and will start the third quarter with $815,357 on hand, outraising Republican Steve Chabot’s campaign AND reporting a higher cash on hand than Chabot.

We asked Democratic Congressional Nominee Greg Landsman his favorite ice cream and Ohio maker.

“I’m torn. Obviously Black Raspberry Chip from Graeter’s is a Cincinnati classic for a reason. But I’m also a huge fan of my neighborhood Mt. Washington Creamy Whip. The Creamy Whip is soft-serve, though, so it’s like comparing apples to oranges. Lots of great ice cream in Ohio’s First District.”

Greg Landsman was always the cream of the crop, but never stops striving to be a “graeter” candidate. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has identified Ohio’s 1st Congressional District as a Red to Blue seat. Learn more about Greg Landsman’s plans for Ohio.

Until Next Week

Summer is here and time is ticking for us to win this November.

We have a lot of work to do to get more field organizers on the ground in every corner of the state. We have offices to open, phones banks to hold, canvasses to launch, and of course – thousands of unregistered Democrats to register by Election Day. To do this, we need your help and we need it now. Please consider contributing as much as you can to help build the infrastructure needed to win.

If you’re unsure about how much you can still contribute to help us win in November and beyond, simply reply to this email. My team will respond with what you can still do to help us grow the team.

As always, thank you for standing with us. We are so grateful for your incredible support.

I hope to see you out on the campaign trail,
