To the members of the January 6 Select Committee:

I thank each of you for your diligent pursuit of the truth around the danger posed and the damage done to our country before, on and since January 6, 2021.  Your work is the most vital in this century.  That day, I watched what happened in horror, as did so many Americans.  I believe that what compels you daily, and drives Americans to watch, to learn, is your desire to learn the truth, to find what can be done to prevent such a heinous act from reoccurring, and a resolute belief in accountability for the perpetrators.

Our country can no longer forgive and forget when our leaders flagrantly flaunt our laws.  Our elected leaders must be held to a higher level of accountability, commensurate with their authority, their oaths, and their actions.  Our freedoms are being used against us to deny us those very same freedoms.  Our country is on the precipice and your work, I believe, will bring our country, battered and bruised, to restore “Equal Justice Under the Law.”  But it’s not, and it won’t be, easy getting there.

To that end, one element that so many feel is missing is the revelations of the actions of those who are supposed to represent us in Congress, who instead chose to participate in the criminal conspiracy that led to such abhorrent outcomes. These individuals do not belong in elective office, let alone in the federal seat of law-making when they are dangerously law-breaking.  Their continued presence, and their continued support of the Big Lie, is akin to leaders of the Confederate States making decisions on behalf of our entire union during the Civil War. It damages our country every day they remain in those positions. They are still making decisions in their own interest, and not in the interest of most Americans, nor abiding by their sworn oath.

Our country remains in peril as long as they remain in power and evade the standards that “We, the People” are held to, and for as long as they support the outright lies that have divided us. We Americans deserve to have the information about their words and deeds, then to witness real justice ala “Rex non super legem.” (The King is not above the law) in the Magna Carta.

I urge you to hold another public hearing on the actions of these individuals, starting with those who requested or even inquired about a pardon, but not stopping there.

This committee has been doing a very effective job of sharing information with Americans but please consider this additional information as essential to restoring public trust.  We need more than one party that is willing to protect our democracy.  We need more than one party that is willing to work with the other(s) to reach decisions through discussion, debate, and the passage of legislation for the betterment of all of us.  There’s a lot of hard work ahead but an informed electorate is essential to the preservation, protection, and improvement of any democracy.

Again, thanks so much to the Jan 6 Committee for pursuing their work in a non-partisan fashion, an eye always on the truth supported by evidence, and for giving us the chance to begin to heal.  Knowledge is necessary to healing, and course-correction, as accurately stated by one of the injured Capitol Police Officers, Harry Dunn.

Respectfully,
