On Wednesday, the Republican-controlled PA House of Representatives voted down an attempt by Democrats to ban assault weapons – the guns of choice for mass shooters.
PA House Republicans, backed by the NRA, refuse to pass “red flag” laws that will keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals. They demand armed teachers, and even voted to allow concealed carry of weapons without a permit.
Thoughts and prayers are not enough. We need ACTION. And we need to DEFEAT the PA House Republicans that are standing in the way.
Meet the 8 Gun Sense candidates we’re highlighting:
Robert Zeigler (PA-HD171 Centre) is a working-class candidate running against the worst of the worst: GOP Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff. Robert is a father of three and a committed community member and activist who has built his life around standing up for others.
Cathy Spahr (PA-HD160 Chester/Delco) is a fierce advocate of women’s rights. She’s a mom of twins, transportation planner and environmental advocate running to flip a district that has trended in favor of Democrats.
Dr. Arvind Venkat (PA-HD30 Allegheny) is an emergency room doctor running to fix our broken healthcare system. He’d be the first South Asian member to serve in the over 300 year history of the PA House.
Paul Takac (PA-HD82 Centre) is a father and College Township Councilmember running to represent Penn State. He currently works in educational technology, and will fight for our public schools and universities.
Melissa Cerrato (PA-HD151 Montco) is running against one of PA’s most dangerous politicians; this needs to be the last term for shape-shifter/opportunist Todd Stephens. As former district director for Rep. Liz Hanbidge, Melissa has the training and experience to serve the new HD 151.
Alexandra Wisser (PA-HD147 Montco) is an environmental attorney and public school parent running in an open seat.
Chelsea Oliver (PA-HD4 Erie) will be the first woman ever elected to this seat. She’s running to expand broadband access, advance agritourism, and preserve green spaces in her rural district.
Brian Munroe (PA-HD144 Bucks) a Navy veteran, former firefighter/EMT and police officer who has served at the local and county level, both as Warminster Township and Bucks County Clerk of Courts. Now he’s ready to take the fight to Harrisburg!
Thanks for standing up.
