Keep reading for TWO important announcements.
Hello, we are writing to you because the next month will set the fate of Michigan’s democracy for the next decade, and we need YOUR help.
As you all may know, Michigan’s first ever Independent Citizens’ Redistricting Commission is in the process of drawing our new state House, state Senate, and Congressional districts that will be in place until 2030.
The commission was created with the intent to end unfair partisan gerrymandering, and is supposed to draw their maps based on quantitative data, and feedback from public comments given online or in person. Sadly, Republican groups across Michigan have submitted 70% of the public comments per the Detroit News, advocating for GOP-favored districts, attacking commissioners who have advocated for fairness, and trying to insert confusion and disruption into the map-drawing process.
We CANNOT let the GOP efforts hijack this nonpartisan process. This is not only the biggest political fight of 2021, but also might be the most impactful process of the decade. Your action now can help establish fair and balanced elections for years.
