In an editorial published [yesterday], the Orlando Sentinel Editorial Board rebuked Governor Ron DeSantis for being more concerned about “burnishing his 2024 presidential ambitions with a visit to the southern border” over the weekend than being on the ground in the state he governs as Florida struggled to keep up with “one of the nation’s biggest spikes in COVID cases and hospitalizations.”
Florida currently accounts for almost 20% of all new COVID-19 cases in the country. Cases are up nearly 200% compared to two weeks ago, and the state is third in the nation when it comes to per capita case increases. The test positivity rate in the state is now significantly above 10%.
To save lives, the Editorial Board counsels Governor DeSantis to “start acting like Florida’s governor and less like he’s auditioning for Turning Point USA or Texas Gov. Greg Abbott or whatever Fox News host comes calling.”
“At the moment, it’s as if DeSantis has washed his hands of the matter and moved on to elections, borders, critical race theory, mocking Fauci or whatever else will get him a headline.”

ICYMI: Orlando Sentinel Editorial Board Pleads With Governor DeSantis To Stop Playing Politics and Focus on COVID-19 Surge
Florida Democrats believe in effective and efficient government that prioritizes quality education, affordable health care, and an economy in which anyone who works hard can succeed.
Most importantly, we believe that we are stronger together. We believe the fundamental American promise — that you can go as far as your own hard work will take you — should shine brightest in Florida.
That is why we champion the middle class and cherish the principle that all Floridians should have the opportunity to work hard and succeed. That is why we will never stop fighting for better public schools, because education is the surest path to a better life for millions.
From standing for affordable health care and better schools to fighting for civil rights and access to the ballot box, Florida Democrats are leading every day to move our state forward.
