The Democratic Insider:

Missouri Democrats

This past week the appointees to the Senate and House Bipartisan Redistricting Citizens Commissions were made public and include twenty Missouri Democrats. This group is dedicated to developing fair and equitable legislative maps and working to end the GOP’s gerrymandered districts designed to silence voices based on what we look like, where we come from and how much money we have.

We have to draw the line with the power-hungry Republicans trying to divide our communities in an attempt to silence us and will band together across race and place to ensure our communities thrive for the next decade and the generations that follow.

Thank you all for your service to Missouri!

Child Tax Credit Rollout

Missourians started receiving a monthly tax credit Thursday, July 15 of up to $300 per child, or $3600 per year, as part of the American Rescue Plan.

The Child Tax Credit is a huge win for working families across Missouri. These monthly credits can help cover expenses like childcare and preparing for back to school. COVID-19 exasperated issues with the country’s childcare system and working parents have been hit especially hard.

Thanks to President Biden and the Democrats, this tax credit will provide additional relief to the families of 1,262,000 children in our state, helping to lift 73,000 of those children out of poverty.

Infrastructure Plan

Historically, infrastructure bills have enjoyed wide bipartisan support, as they should. After all, investments in our infrastructure are investments in our future. The current Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework bill – the largest long-term investment in our infrastructure and competitive ability in almost a century – deserves enthusiastic bipartisan support from Missourians.

For years, we have not invested as we should in Missouri infrastructure. As we all know, deferred maintenance will cost the state more in the long run. With low interest rates, now is the right time to act.

COVID-19 is ravaging our state, Missouri has the highest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations per capita in the country, the second most new cases per capita and the fourth most deaths per capita. Governor Parson continues to put his head in the sand and pretend this pandemic is not real.

The crisis here is so bad that Missouri has been placed on a travel advisory by Chicago and named the most dangerous state in the country in relation to COVID-19 by Wallethub.

This month, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) sent a “surge response team” to Springfield, and what did Parson do? He sent out a tweet saying “they are not welcome here.”

Only 39% of us are fully vaccinated, keeping the state in a constant risk zone. Hospitals in Southwest Missouri are hitting their capacity and running out of lifesaving ventilators. Parson’s dereliction of duty to constituents is costing lives. President Biden and the Democrats have a plan to deliver relief, resources and aid to Missouri, but Parson isn’t eager to accept it.

Our Democratic Leadership at the Missouri House of Representatives stood up for the people of Missouri again this week after the Republicans filed an amicus-brief on Medicaid expansion of behalf of the ENTIRE House.

Um, you can’t do that Mr. Speaker.

By rules of the Missouri Legislature, legislators have to be able to vote on these matters first. Due to the split in our House the brief would have been approved regardless, but House protocol was not followed.

The Republicans have consistently, and almost constantly, overruled the will of the voters on Medicaid expansion in 2020. On Tuesday, the issue headed to the Missouri Supreme Court where oral arguments were made against the Cole County judge that ruled the expansion was unconstitutional.

It is unclear when the court will rule on the case, but it is expected to go through the process “quickly.”

We need your help to turn Missouri blue again. The stakes of our state hang in the balance. Missourian’s votes should be upheld and respected!

The Missouri Democratic Party holds the distinction of being the oldest political party in the United States established west of the Mississippi River. For the last century, we’ve led the fight for working families. Today, we’re organizing in communities across Missouri to protect and build on our progress.
