America is at a crossroads. Six months have passed since the attack on our nation and our democracy on January 6th. Since that day, anti-voter laws have been passed in states all over the country and the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent rulings have made clear that it will not act to protect the sacred right to vote. This summer, Congressional districts risk being redrawn in a way that will allow politicians to choose their voters – rather than the voters fairly choosing who represents them.We have reached an inflection point in which we must force our elected officials to act now or risk losing the very foundation of our republic. But there is hope for us to stop this undercurrent of corruption and rebuild American democracy so that the freedom to vote is protected, billionaires don’t control our political systems, and our representatives actually respond to we the people. To do this, we must pass the For the People Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and D.C. Statehood – and we can’t let anything, including the Jim Crow filibuster, stand in our way!Join us for The Good Trouble Vigils for Democracy on July 17 – the one year mark of the passing of Rep.John Lewis – as we carry on his legacy by hosting candlelight vigils nationwide to demand that Congress act to protect our freedom to vote and rebuild our democracy. We must and will win this Fight! Bring fire-safe candles!

For Voting Rights! It’s Groundhog Day for states’ rights and Black voter suppression in the Senate. Call your senators (more info)
“States’ rights” was the political battle cry that maintained and expanded slavery, as our country itself expanded. It was heard again in the Senate to reject S.1 -“For the People Act,” in favor of a wave of new state laws being described as the return of Jim-CrowMinimal script:I’m calling from [zip code] and I want Senator [___] to know that I’m furious that that Republicans filibustered debate on the S.1 For the People Act. To prevent even having a discussion about voting rights is outrageous. Americans know that having 50 different sets of election rules, some of which are blatantly discriminatory, isn’t fair and want election reform by wide margins. [If Dem add:] Democrats must do anything and everything necessary to pass this bill. Including voting to abolish or reform the filibuster. [If GOP add] Shame on the Senator for putting party over our democracy. I will be encouraging the Democrats to abolish the filibuster to pass this bill.Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430
and Senator Padilla:  DC (202) 224-3553, LA (310) 231-4494, SAC (916) 448-2787, Fresno (559) 497-5109, SF (415) 981-9369, SD (619) 239-3884

Call VP Harris and ask her to rule the filibuster unconstitutional(more info)
Minimal Script: I’m [calling/writing] to ask VP Harris, as presiding officer of the Senate, to rule that the filibuster is unconstitutional. Its 60-vote supermajority requirement for the enactment of general legislation is in violation of Article V, the 17th Amendment and the constitutional presumption of majority rule as prescribed in the Constitution. VP Harris: Email : http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/, Comments: 202-456-1111, Switch Board: 202-456-1414, TTY/TTD:  202-456-6213, Letters/postcards: The White House, Office of the Vice President,1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20500Tell your senators that we expect them to make changes now!(more info)
Minimal Script: I’m calling from [zip code] to let Sen. [___] know that I’ve just finished (calling/writing) Vice President Harris to ask her to rule the filibuster unconstitutional. The American public is done with the Senate’s dysfunctional legislative graveyard. This procedure must either be abolished, or substantially reformed, as it’s anti-democratic for a minority to be able to permanently block bi-partisan House legislation, especially bills related to basic democracy, like voting access and equal rights. I’m asking [him/her] to immediately engage in collaboration to reform the Senate from the legislative bottleneck it is now to a functioning body, which may include time limits, the “talking filibuster”, and majority-vote carve-outs for bills that reform and protect democracy.

Senator Feinstein: DC (202) 224-3841, LA (310) 914-7300, SF (415) 393-0707, SD (619) 231-9712, Fresno (559) 485-7430
and Senator Padilla:  DC (202) 224-3553, LA (310) 231-4494, SAC (916) 448-2787, Fresno (559) 497-5109, SF (415) 981-9369, SD (619) 239-3884
