Final results won’t be in until after this newsletter goes out, but it looks like IEB member Janani Ramachandran will be one of the top two candidates in Tuesday’s election for the open AD 18 State Assembly seat, sending her to an August 31 runoff. IEB was one of the first to endorse Janani, and we want to be one of the first to congratulate her! Stay tuned for canvassing & other events.
Speaking of elections, our action this week is fighting the Gov. Newsom recall — it’s not about whether you like him, it’s about protecting democracy! And our featured event is about voting rights and the For the People Act, now more critical than ever.
Action: Just Say No to the Recall
Deadline: July 7 and then keep going – We’re fighting to protect democracy a lot these days. Whether you’re a fan of Gov. Newsom or not, recall elections not based on criminal activity or abuse of office are an abuse of democracy. The campaign to recall and replace Newsom is an election but it’s undemocratic — an attempt to nullify an election by dissatisfied people who don’t want to wait for the next election. (Sound familiar?) In some countries, the government can be unseated by a vote of no confidence. But that’s not how our system works, and we need to say NO. Sign up here for a July 7 text training & text bank, and sign up here to get postcards that you and your friends can send. And pass it on — send our article to five friends in California!

We Could Not Make This Up
We’re not saying Marjorie T. Greene is scraping the bottom of the mean-girl barrel for insults, but ya think her calling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez a “little Communist” is a new low in her one-sided feud with her fellow Member of Congress? No matter — MTG ranted and raved, but AOC wins with her pithy seven word retort: “First of all, I’m taller than her.” And speaking of unfair comparisons: Dr. Jill Biden is on the cover of Vogue. But really isn’t it just a disgrace that Melania never was, since she was so “elegant” and “the greatest”? Hmm … We Really Don’t Care, Do U?
