CALL/EMAIL: Cobb County, GA, was the area most responsible for Biden’s win in that state. Therefore, it comes as no surprise, that the number of early election locations in that area has been slashed, with most of the damage happening in minority neighborhoods. A ferocious letter from the NAACP and ACLU has got their elections division head to add back a couple of locations, but people were already waiting 5-10 hours to vote BEFORE! Our county’s great environmental community has put out an alert and we’ve heard many stories of interactions with a surly army of paid signature gatherers. Fingers crossed that their petition drive on behalf of the oil industry has failed. They want to reverse the Board of Supervisors recent decision to require that they comply with modern anti-pollution standards. DEADLINE Dec. 17th.: Write/Call about the oil industry lease sales being pushed through for the Arctic National Wilderness Refuge before Biden takes office. DC STATEHOOD and BAD HOUSE RULES: Seriously, DC Statehood would be one of the most BLM-positive events that could happen. Action #1: Tell your representative to get rid of the “Motion to Recommit” and the “PayGo” rules. This sounds weird, but there’s a really great video to explain it and it’s surprisingly important.Action #2: Tell your legislators that it’s time for D.C. statehood. Seriously. This petition is in response to a racist petition that some Camarillo residents began gathering signatures for on Nov. 3. Their goal is to unseat Vice Mayor Susan Santangelo and Councilmember Shawn Mulchay in retaliation for their efforts to pass a resolution affirming that Black Lives Matter in Camarillo. In addition to the offensiveness of their petition, it could also waste approximately $220,000 of taxpayers dollars for a special election should their petition drive succeed.
