NEW ACTIONS!

DEADLINE Dec. 17th.: Write/Call about the oil industry lease sales being pushed through for the Arctic National Wilderness Refuge before Biden takes office. We have a phone and email script for your representatives and Senators, and a “Build-a-letter” guide to creating an original comment for the BLM. (https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/12/08/tues-12-8-two-actions-to-defend-the-arctic-refuge-from-oil-drilling/)

DC STATEHOOD and BAD HOUSE RULES: Action #1: Tell your representative to get rid of the “Motion to Recommit” and the “PayGo” rules. This sounds weird, but there’s a really great video to explain it and it’s surprisingly important.Action #2: Tell your legislators that it’s time for D.C. statehood. Seriously. Excellent VOX video lays it out, along with a written post from Indivisible. Post for both actions here: (https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/12/04/friday-action-wrap-up-d-c-statehood-and-house-rules/)

SIGN THIS PETITION: Affirmation of (Camarillo) Council Members Santangelo and Mulchay. On November 3rd, some Camarillo residents began gathering signatures for a petition to unseat Vice Mayor Susan Santangelo and Councilmember Shawn Mulchay. The petition drive is largely a response to councilmembers Santangelo and Mulchay’s effort to pass a resolution affirming that in our city, Black Lives Matter. Because we agree with Santangelo and Mulchay that Black Lives Matter, we the undersigned, call on Camarillo residents to refuse to lend their signatures to the above referenced petition. In addition to our strong sympathy with the sentiments advanced in Santangelo and Mulchay’s proposed resolution, we also find ourselves troubled by wasteful cost (approximately $220,000) to city taxpayers for a special election should the petition drive succeed. This is NOT LIMITED TO CAMARILLO RESIDENTS.  Sign here.(https://www.change.org/p/camarillo-affirmation-of-council-members-santangelo-and-mulchay)

GEORGIA ACTIONS! PHONEBANKING/TEXTBANKING/INSTAGRAM/DM: We have tons of phone/textbanking opportunities on our site here, (tinyurl.com/Antiracist-events-Ventura). There is a definite need for bilingual assistance as well. “Phonebanking for introverts” resource is here. (https://indivisibleventura.org/phone-banking-for-the-rest-of-us/)New opportunities we’ve just added to the list!:- Flip the West now has an INSTAGRAM Direct Messenger campaign to reach college students and the LGBTQ+ community, along with an “anytime” phonebank, a new textbank schedule and a list of training times. -United We Dream PAC has a phonebank which is reaching out to eligible Latinx voters. WRITING CAMPAIGNS: Added one today. There are now five postcard options and two letterwriting options listed here.(https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/11/09/georgia-on-your-mind-write-gotv-postcards-to-their-voters/)

WATCH OUT FOR THESE PETITIONS OUTSIDE VC STORES! Our county’s great environmental community has put out an alert. Watch out for an army of paid signature gatherers outside our stores trying to push a petition to reverse the Board of Supervisors recent decision to require the oil industry, even those with ancient permits, to comply with modern regulations for new wells, instead of just polluting our earth, water, and air, like it was still the 1940’s. Don’t fall for their misdirection. Don’t let your friends and neighbors fall for them. And if you have time and energy, go stand 6′ feet away from the petition gatherers and tell people the truth. We have downloadable signs here or make your own! (https://tinyurl.com/No-to-BIG-OIL-petition)

CHARITABLE OPPORTUNITIES! We have a whole page of them, including food and toy dropoffs, for those in need or for those who can help. (https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/11/23/giving-and-receiving-during-this-pandemic-season/) We’re featuring two on our top page today (tinyurl.com/Antiracist-events-Ventura).- Dec. 1 – 10, LULAC de Camarillo is holding a new blanket drive for farm workers (https://friendsoffieldworkers.org/) – Lift Up your voice to end Homelessness” needs gently used furniture and supplies to furnish new homes for people transitioning from homelessness. https://www.facebook.com/liftupyourvoiceventura/

CONTINUING ACTIONS!COVID ASSISTANCE: Call your senators to push through the HEROES Act! The GOP is trying to flip the script, saying that House Democrats are responsible for the hold-up. But the same Senate that gave $1.7 trillion in tax breaks to our richest, proposes crumbs for us, and MORE COVID liability protection to corporations. (See: “Tyson Managers Suspended After Allegedly Betting If Workers Would Contract COVID”) (https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/11/30/mon-11-30-tell-the-senate-to-pass-the-heroes-act-now/)

KAMALA’S SENATE SEAT: Keep calling/email Governor Newsom’s office to choose a Black woman to replace Kamala Harris in the Senate: Action and script here. (https://indivisibleventura.org/2020/11/24/tues-11-24-gov-newsom-do-the-right-thing/)Governor Gavin Newsom: (916) 445-2841 email: https://govapps.gov.ca.gov/gov40mail/

There are also two connected petitions: Black Lives Matter: (https://blacklivesmatter.com/tell-gov-newsom-he-must-appoint-a-black-woman-to-the-senate/)Black to the Future: (https://black2thefuture.org/lets-go-forward-not-backwards/)Latest on our perpetual loser of a president…(https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2020/12/08/supreme-court-wont-hear-trump-allies-challenge-pennsylvania-vote/6483060002/)
