ICYMI: As Pence Visits Florida, Local Leaders Condemn Trump Administration’s Failed Leadership

Yesterday, as Mike Pence parachuted into central Florida for a rally in The Villages and a “Latinos for Trump” event in Orlando, Florida Democrats denounced his and Trump’s failed leadership and disastrous mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has thrown Floridians into crisis. See for yourself:

The Villages Daily Sun: “A few hours before Pence’s visit, the Florida Democratic Party hosted a virtual news conference to discuss Trump’s performance on topics concerning Florida seniors, including the coronavirus and Social Security. The speakers included former Sen. Bill Nelson, as well as Dennis Foley of The Villages Democratic Club.

“Over Zoom, Foley, director in the club’s communications department, discussed local Democrats’ enthusiasm, as well as continuing efforts to get out the vote. The plan Saturday was to phone-bank, reaching out to people with vote-by-mail ballots, encouraging them to fill them out and letting them know they can return ballots via mail or secure drop boxes.
“The mantra, said Foley, of Village De La Vista, is all gas and no brakes until the election.”

Tampa Bay Times: “Ahead of Pence’s visit, two billboards in Central Florida carried a message from the Biden campaign: “COVID cases are spiking. This administration failed us.” The last two words were displayed in giant letters.

“Earlier in the day, a caravan of golf carts supporting Vice President Joe Biden dropped ballots off at a drop box.

“‘The Trump administration proves every single day they have no interest in the public health and safety of Floridians,’ said Jackie Lee, Biden’s state director in Florida.”

The Palm Beach Post: “State Senator Linda Stewart, an Orlando Democrat, also had some harsh words for Pence, who heads the White House pandemic task force, regarding his claim that the administration has saved ‘countless’ lives.

Florida Democrats believe in effective and efficient government that prioritizes quality education, affordable health care, and an economy in which anyone who works hard can succeed.

Most importantly, we believe that we are stronger together. We believe the fundamental American promise — that you can go as far as your own hard work will take you — should shine brightest in Florida.

That is why we champion the middle class and cherish the principle that all Floridians should have the opportunity to work hard and succeed. That is why we will never stop fighting for better public schools, because education is the surest path to a better life for millions.

From standing for affordable health care and better schools to fighting for civil rights and access to the ballot box, Florida Democrats are leading every day to move our state forward.
